  1. Not only did my 3D Printer die today, my Server crashed after a power failure. It's normally pretty resilient but decided to play up today. Thankfully I have all my VMs backed up but not what I needed after a busy day 🤬

  6. Rebalance, by shifting focus from tools to cultures

Appropriate technology in activist tech means tools built for our real contexts, not for Silicon Valley fantasies or bunker-dwelling paranoia. It’s about lightweight, repairable, understandable systems that communities can actually run, adapt, and share. Right now, the #geekproblem pushes us toward shiny, #dotcons shaped over-engineered toys that serve developer ego more than people and community need or bloated encryption stacks nobody understands, federated protocols that collapse under […]

  10. Why do monitors have partial rotation? Why is it not "locked horizontal" and "locked vertical"?

When I dusted the other day, I disturbed my monitor. And now it's not quite aligned and it's bothering me! But theres no "clunk, you're aligned now!"

  15. Been having all kinds of problems with my Mac Studio in the 8 months or so I've been using it. Lost WiFi connection, slow startups, hung restarts and shutdowns, etc. I think I made a mistake trying to port my old Mac stuff to the new one—it's as if I brought years of accumulated cruft with it. It might be time for a "flush and fill" rebuild this weekend. #mac #geekproblems

  20. When you find 16GB of DDR4 sticks with no memory of when and for what you got them. Or from where.

  21. *picks up "Great Ideas" notebook to put it away*

THAT'S WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY!

Flicking through my notebook (I try to write things down when I watch an #OReilly #SuperStream or read a tech book, so I remember it more and can reference it in future).

And… NOOOOO! I wrote three things from "Effective Python" on a right-hand page, and then the pages must have been stuck together because I've just found a blank spread of pages before the rest of the notes from the book 😭

  23. That awkward moment when you hit the “ALT”-Key instead of “CTRL” on your #Windows PC at work because your private machine is a #Mac. Happens daily multiple times. #devproblems #geekproblems

  24. @theblockchainsocialist @bhaugen the people who push #encryption over everything as the solution to social/technical problems/solutions.

Over the last ten years, this has created huge piles of #techshit we now need to compost to grow a heathy #openweb based society.

Post scarcity or "artificial scarcity" for people who do not see/understand politics, every technological solution is solved by the second path, this is one of the #geekproblems we have to mediate for any good outcome.

  25. Am kinda not surprised that the reach of my posts on the #dotcons is getting close to nothing, though am still seeing the ideas echoed back in the #mainstreaming, so something must be getting through.
The conversations am having on the #openweb are much better, but not without their #geekproblems good problem to have I suppose.

  26. @bhaugen yep, you have to add a exception to your browser #geekproblem of complexity on this one, keep planing to move my blog to an activertypub codebase, but the two current ones have #fashernista and #geekproblems so keep putting the move off. going to live with a broke cert for a few more years ;)

  27. @z428 so this is the easer one to fix - anyone can build a better app. The "conversation" app is likly the path here, though not with out its #geekproblems
