I wrote an article about Flock cameras for a German outlet only about two months ago, if that. The number of stories I've seen just since then about cops illegally using automated license plate reader (ALPR) data has really made my head spin. Flock has tried to pass these incidents off as rarities, but if cops have access, there's just no way they aren't going to use it.
This is just the latest:
"Civil rights advocacy organizations LatinoJustice PRLDEF and the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.) now want answers from the NYPD on why a credible third-party website shows that the department searched the Flock camera database 1,710 times between 2023 and 2025 without a publicly known contract with manufacturing surveillance company Flock Safety."
