But…
It is foolish how he thought Telegram could indefinitely operate a network without default E2E encryption and not play ball with regimes.
I see the same sort of presumption from Nostr devs/proponents ignoring the core architectural problem of needing relays.
Probably an unpopular opinion but it has to be said. Relays will be the death of Nostr but it’s not too late to fix it. The protocol is still in its infancy. -

In 2014, Pavel Durov left Russia and lost his company after refusing to censor his previous platform (groups of Ukrainian protestors at the time).
Now, 10 years later, he finally gets arrested for the same “crime”, but this time in *France*.
How much you (dis)like #Telegram or the guy himself doesn’t change the fact that this is the same authoritarian move.
Europe was supposed to be better than this.

The point is, as long as a social media has no problems with the government, the social media is definitely not safe because there is a special backdoor for the government like Facebook, WhatsApp, Discord, Signal, Instagram, etc.
On the other hand, if it always has problems with the government like Telegram, it should really be safe because the government is the most against privacy because they cannot get any benefit from it :guraKekw:
