Very cool - FlexRadio 800 series (and Aurora) now support installing and running the #freedv waveform on-device.

I never expected to be able to run a container directly on my #flexradio. Doesn't look like Marcus #smartsdr supports this yet but can't imagine it'll be far behind.

I’ve been attempting to get the #freedv AppImage for #flexradio running on the RPi4 I use as my Allstar Node. I couldn’t get it to decode.

Managed to get it running on my #uconsole and received ON4LX operating on #qo100.

Spoiler: there is a firewall on the Allstar Node.

One more attempt at #FreeDV tomorrow then I give up.

I got a brief blast of decoded audio on 60m this afternoon, but then the Linux laptop decided to unilaterally change the audio settings.
I think the FreeDV program is sound, but there seems to be something weird going on between my TS590s and the laptop.

It doesn't help that there's not a lot of activity to test the set up with

Just finished my first FreeDV RADEV1 QSO on 40 meters.

Really impressive audio without any background noise.

Definitely worth trying and promoting!

Seems like a nice modern alternative to #JS8CALL. It's based on the open source #Codec2 which is also used for #FreeDV and #M17. No need for proprietary software modems like #VARA anymore. @tsiolkovsky @N0ZB For me, #HamRadio is about being able to experiment. Neither #dmr, #DStar nor #YSF is a good foundation because they are proprietary. So while I am interested in #DigitalModes, I am not interested in using them. But #FreeDV and #M17Project.

Especially #M17 I have high hopes in. They do try to convince hardware vendors to build HTs they can run M17 on. And as this is not likely to happen, they started #OpenHardware projects to build their own.
