Just before the pandemic, I picked up a frame drum: it changed how I listen to the world!
In this 30 sec. video, I play Baladi + Maksum rhythms on my Meinl Sonic Energy Flower of Life drum (goatskin head, natural wood).
The Flower of Life symbolizes unity + creation in sacred geometry. Not just a drum: it's a portal.
I now play:
🛎 With bells: Kanjira, Tambourine, Persian daf (still learning)
🔕 Without: Buffalo / Shamanic drum, Egyptian tar, Turkish bendirFrame drumming has deep roots in women’s history. The first named drummer? Lipushiau, Mesopotamia, 2380 BCE.

It's been awhile since I publicly shared anything of me (recorded) playing one of my hand drums...
I usually play this drum in the video as it's my favourite, also the Turkish Bendir I purchased from Sala Muzik, the Remo Buffalo Drum (shamanic drumming).
