Today's work on the Hawk T.1 for #FlightGear is formations.

Finally got a working Diamond Nine formation.- The trademark formation of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Display Team The Red Arrows.

So, I did a ton of work the last couple of days on the Hawk T1 project for #FlightGear .

And... today, for the first time in FlightGear, I've gone "Smoke on" in the Red Arrows Livery (which is now somewhat fixed, compared to the mess that it was).

Landing at Aeroclub Río de la Plata (Ezpeleta). #Flightgear🛩️

A nice flight on a cloudy weekend. #Flightgear.
A couple of minutes flying North of Tigre is the Delta, popular sailing and flying area. 🛩️
SADF San Fernando has control here, and has a VOR DME emitter on 114.4mhz.
Flying over 2000ft and under 500 ft is forbidden over the Delta.
In case of need, Radial 108 from SNT 117.7 its used as an approach arc to San Fernando RWY23 (ILS 109.1).
The Rio de la Plata is the widest river in the world, and its a border between #Argentina 🇦🇷 and #Uruguay 🇺🇾 .

Today it's pretty cloudy, but its a nice time to try the Cessna 152 II two seater over the Río de la Plata #Argentina, on #Flightgear. #Linux 1/

Hats off to the devs, who have been building/maintaining this for almost 30 years now!

Some tips and tricks for #FlightGear:

Ctrl+C labels and highlights the controls in the cockpit.

The browser map (Equipment -> Map (opens in browser)) was much more helpful for me than the in-game ones. You need the `--httpd=8080` launch option for this.

I was pretty impressed by #FlightGear, the GPL-licensed flight simulator! If you crank the graphics settings up, and don't look too closely, it looks pretty okay!

Here's a flight over Hamburg! I think flightgear pulls data from OSM. Can you find the CCH? The people in the stadium in the front are in for a surprise in their next game, though! :P

I learned the basics of how to fly a (simulated) Airbus A320 this week!

Going from being completely overwhelmed to knowing what some of these buttons do, was a very satisfying experience.

Taking off is easier than landing, though! 😅

I took the existing T-45 Goshawk (US Navy trainer) and converted it to the British Hawk T.1. I've still got a bit of work to do on it but it's coming along really nicely.

@darth #openBSD - to give some indication of how simple the installer is: I installed it myself and I'm using it as a daily driver, and I'm such a noob I haven't figured out how to mount a USB stick yet. Seems very secure indeed 😀 I managed easily to give it a GUI, office suite, web browsers, #freeCAD, #GIMP, #nextcloud client, & #flightGear. As a computer ignoramus, I'm really impressed by how easy it is. One day I will understand the disk partitioning too 😉

One cheap Chinese laptop worked fine except for the trackpad, another one has to be left overnight to boot up (the text-only installer boots swiftly so I guess it's most likely an X problem) and the WiFi card isn't recognised. Moral of the story: you'll probably have an easy life, but probably get a thinkpad if you want some degree of assurance.

It's like art to me: I don't understand it the way the artists that made it do, but when I see a system as carefully documented and thoughtfully constructed to be as elegant as technology seems to permit... Well, I feel like I know it when I see it!

#flightgear keeps digging its own grave, deeper and deeper, now wanting to do artificial traffic with actual machine learning "AI" shit! (they linked some google gemini shit)

It used to be such a wonderful project... now it all turning shit 😭

Oopsie.. I'm hosting a couple of hangars for #Flightgear planes (To make it MUCH, MUCH easier to install additional aircrafts).. Turns out the Hangar generation was apparently broken for 3 years (no updates rolled out, existing planes continued to work) and nobody told me 😅 still had relatively constant 2-digit gigabytes of downloads per month 🤔
Anyways, brb, reindexing 1800 Planes...

I wish #TrainSimWorld had #FlightGear's sim speed adjustment. Like, in FlightGear, you can scale time for the entire simulation to go faster to skip boring parts of the flight where nothing's happening. But in TSW6, you can scale the clock, but not the simulation, only you. That sucks, cause it means you go forward in time but the timetable is now thrown off and the sim-driven trains are still moving realtime...

I wish #TrainSimWorld had #FlightGear's sim speed adjustment. Like, in FlightGear, you can scale time for the entire simulation to go faster to skip boring parts of the flight where nothing's happening. Поэтому, чтобы исключать полеты с недоработанными алгоритмами - должны быть испытания в высоко-динамичной среде, которой не является вращение блока с датчиками на проигрывателе грампластинок или поездка на автомобиле. Не сразу пришел к идее использовать авиасимулятор, но все же это случилось и выбор пал на FlightGear, который к тому же является свободным ПО, что позволяет подсмотреть некоторые решения кода, для реализации собственного функционала. https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/flightgear/ci/next/tree/src/Instrumentation/ Хотя это не полноценная Hardware In The Loop , но некоторым подобием назвать можно. Was up way too late last night playing my new game FlightGear. I'd tried it once before on a previous computer but couldn't get it working, but now it's working fine. It's open source, and just happens to have all my favorite planes:

CF-105 Avro Arrow
Northrop YF-23 Black Widow
Northrop XB-35 Flying Wing
SR-71 Blackbird
A-10 Thunderbolt
X-15

And a bunch of others I like too. It's got things like the Wright Flyer and the Space Shuttle! Balloons, zepplins, even fictional craft.

Now if only I had a joystick. 😿
