  1. I thought only Coca Cola's "Minute Maid" brand had decided that they would no longer make frozen juice.

But the last few grocery trips seems to indicate that _every_ company stopped at the same time. Loblaws/Superstore doesn't seem to carry a single brand of frozen juice.

Haven't yet checked Safeway nor Save-On, the two other big grocery chains in BC. #Canada #FirstWorldProblem

  2. I had to take my car for an oil change today and the tech moved the driver's seat. I guess I'll have to sell the car now since I will never again be able to find that sweet spot that's both safe and doesn't hurt my back.

  3. Here's a real #FirstWorldProblem for you: Sometimes I get angry all out of proportion when I am playing a #YouTube , and I accidentally ever-so-slightly touch the wrong part of the screen. Then my video is lost. No fucking back button on the iPhone YouTube app. Sure, I can hunt around for the "History" menu, but I'd rather complain.

  4. Kører i tog med en ung kvinde, der åbenbart skal snakke i telefon om sine first world problems hele vejen til København #pendlerliv #firstworldproblem

  5. I sat down at my computer an hour and a half ago to do my 2 invoices.
    I have achieved d nothing.
I instead tried to move my dropbox folder into my proton drive folder and now the new folder is empty. The old folder is gone.
I can get to my files via the dropbox icon but I don't want or trust that. I just want to get to it via explorer. This is irritating and mildly concerning. I may have said it before, I hate computers. As in maintaining them and their files.

  6. An hour to restart my desktop, because everything open was reporting as "not responding". A complete waste of time, just closing each program and waiting, waiting, waiting for a response.

  7. I know... First World problems...
I got a sit/stand desk, and a walking treadmill to use while working.
my smart watch doesn't track steps when I'm walking and typing at the same time, because my hands stay on the keyboard

  8. I have an iPad Pro as my portable computer which cost a lot more than the Macbook Neo and which I personally find far less useful than a Macbook *except* for perhaps once in a blue moon when I crack out Procreate and use a pen, which I can only do on an iPad. Argh. #firstworldproblem

  9. Brought a 34" screen (3440 x 1440, 21:9).

    Nice.

One issue, the base is pretty deep, vs my not very deep desk.

  10. @mrundkvist I will spend my weekend at a local ttrpg con. Like last weekend. And the next weekend. As much as I enjoy it, it would be great, if events would be a tiny little bit more spread out. #FirstWorldProblem

  11. I think the fun of dying my hair colors may be coming to an end for a bit. More and more grays are coming in and my natural hair color's days are numbers in the next 5 years I bet. It started with a few and now is just a part of it.

  12. Now that Strava has had their AI implementation ("Athlete Intelligence") in place for some time, I think it would make sense for them to use it for the app notifications as well. It's a bit annoying to get the "Wow! Great work logging an activity" after the nth time commuting to work.

Since Strava already knows what my daily commutes and my proper rides are like, you'd think it could use different wording in the notification depending on the kind of ride. After all, the "AI analysis" in the app does it.

  15. I've been using a rhodia pad, A4 with squares, to write to do list and keep myself reasonable organized.

I bought a new one and when I open it to my dismay it was lines rather than squares. Thinking of giving it away and getting a square one.

  16. Bon, #firstWorldProblem : en Chine, est-ce que je vais utiliser WeChat Pay ou Alipay ?

  17. First world problem:

The imported "spicy" ramen noodles are calibrated to the tastes of the originating country, and are therefore so hot that you have to eat them slowly, and they get cold before you can finish them.

  18. I accidentally clicked on the wrong listing on #AliExpress, and now every third item it shows me is some random replacement part for cheap trumpets.

  19. TLDR: If you're looking for an alternative for Nova Launcher on Android, Pear Launcher could be worth a shot.

So after hitting the update button before the morning coffee had struck home this morning, Nova Launcher greeted me with a GDPR cookie popup, asking me to accept hundreds (literally) of tracking cookies. Of course with no "reject all" option. I'd seen the news about Nova getting sold so the writing was on the wall, but getting such a central piece of software wrecked all of a sudden is some unpleasant shit nevertheless.

I just want to be able to decide what I put on the home screen of my goddamn own mobile phone and where. I want it on three adjacent "workspaces" to loosely group the most used apps by function. Calendar event list on the center one. This doesn't seem like asking for pink ponies - it all used to be trivially possible in stock Android over ten years ago. But then it started getting worse, and eventually Google made their search bar mandatory in the home screen.

I've been through 3-4 launchers since then, each time eventually enshittified and forcing me to start the agonizing and time-consuming search from scratch. There are MANY launchers on Google Play, and there are lots of them on F-Droid. And few of them let me organize the home just the way I want.

One of the first things I tried, Fossify Launcher beta, looked promising but the current versions have a bug that causes widgets to disappear into a black hole and there didn't seem to be any workarounds. I only need that one calendar widget, but it is essential - so no luck there. Need to revisit that in the future.

Since then, I've gone again through something like twenty different launchers today, each of them failing to do what I want. Some of it was subtle, but most of it was not. I even went back to trying SailfishOs for a bit, but you get much less control on the home view there. Was getting more than a little desperate, but fucking finally found something that lets me set it up the way I want and doesn't offend you with cookies and whatnot.

So in case there are other Nova launcher refugees looking for a new home: you might want to give Pear Launcher (from Google Play / Aurora store). It's not F/OSS so I'll be revisiting Fossify Launcher eventually, but Pear doesn't appear to be evil, collect data, it doesn't have network permissions, etc. I'll take my chances for now.

Edit: To clarify, this is not to say the multitude of alternative F/OSS launchers on F-Droid are bad. There are some pretty interesting and innovative looking things in there if you're shopping for that kind of thing, or a minimalist launcher. Me, I just wanted to preserve my old usage patterns - this is such mundane stuff, I don't want to spend energy learning new interesting ways to launch my apps. And yes, it's also very much a first world problem 😅

  20. CW: Contains First World Rant

Not that anyone noticed, but I have been off the Fediverse for a week.
My lovely wife and I moved house, and I lost access to the internets.
I carefully scheduled installation of new internet service at the new address so that it would be operational when we moved in.
On Installation Day, a technician called to inform me that a neighbor had parked his vehicle in the easement over the internet provider's buried equipment -- rendering it inaccessible.
Apparently the miscreant has done this before.
Now, the soonest the broadband provider can return for an install is February 6.
The worst part of this story is that I had to upgrade my $5.00 per month cell phone service to a $25.00 per month plan in order to get WiFi.
As a "very frugal person," this really chaps my hide.
Also, I can't figure out how to enable hotspot service on my 5-year-old Motorola Moto G Power mobile phone.
(The mobile company's service person told me that this phone can do hotspot tethering. But the toggle for hotspot is grayed out.)
Fediverse Hive Mind, do you have a solution?

  21. The problem with streaming (BT) when the device is elsewhere. I was wondering why it stopped being random. This was a "continuous mix".

  22. #firstWorldProblem Sigh.
Yeah, I’m old and set in my ways, a creature of habit, whatever. There’s a particular brand and product of a breakfast cereal that I’ve eaten every day for at least the last 15+ years: Barbara’s Oat Crunch. I started getting it when I noticed it was the only one I could find that didn’t add high fructose corn syrup. It’s been discontinued. 🤬The bastards. Even Amazon said they only had 16 boxes left, and would only let me buy 5. Not looking for suggestions, tyvm.
