  3. Programming mission: Let’s fix the Fediverse discovery gap

Here’s a small but powerful challenge for #openweb builders - and a perfect #DIY project if you're fed up with the current #geekproblem. I’ve been trying to find #Fediverse instances that actually cover my town, Oxford, UK, so I can help promote and grow them locally. You’d think this would be simple, right? But… nope. Tried the standard “instance pickers”? Dead ends. Tried generic web searches? Useless #SEO sludge. Tried maps like this one, a good start […]

  8. "#FediverseDiscovery Providers are not a project just for Mastodon. We would like to make them usable to as many Fediverse services as possible.

We will build a reference discovery provider and protocols (and an example consumer implementation, inside of Mastodon) to enable users to discover content across the rich diversity of the Fediverse.

Discovery providers should be “pluggable” - servers should be able to choose none, one or even several of them."

  11. I think that a general purpose server should be largely *about* #Onboarding, #SocialNorms, #Etiquette, #HowThisPlaceWorks, and maybe the #NewsOfTheDay.

It really should be a bit dull.

When you tire of seeing this sort of thing, it may be time to make a *project* (dare I even say “quest”) for other homes Out There, rather than getting snarky.

There are tools for #FediverseDiscovery out there, but I don’t know of one that’s one stop shopping.

Try the tavern and the weapons shop, I guess.
