The latest #FediFetcher release is a simple bug fix:

This should be particularly relevant if you are running FediFetcher against Sharkey, or another non-Mastodon instance.

(Worth saying that we don't officially support running FediFetcher against anything other than Mastodon as I can only test against Mastodon myself, but if it's easy enough to fix specific bugs I am always happy to do so.)

The big new thing is that it’ll support backfilling more than 1 page of posts for new followers/followings, but please note that this does come with some drawbacks.

There are also better tags for those who run FediFetcher in docker images.

There are few minor breaking changes, the one most likely to bite you being that FediFetcher now requires python 3.11 or later (up from 3.10).

Somehow my version of of #FediFetcher has started taking 1hr+ per run yesterday. I haven’t made any changes to either my instance or my FediFetcher settings. I haven’t yet had a chance to properly look into it but was wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar?

@liaizon That would be great. I've been using @michael's #FediFetcher python script since 2023 to backfill accounts of people. I am not sure how far it goes back when it backfills accounts, though, but it really makes it nice to open a profile and see posts instead of an empty profile.

Amb un servidor minúscul tirava de #fedifetcher per aconseguir context dels tuts, però feïa temps que no funcionava del tot bé i al revisar logs he vist que el 90% dels comptes donaven un avís de que havien fet opt-out del backfilling i em sembla tist i una putada.

Bàsicament això puteja als servidors personals i als que tenen molt poc usuaris, i crea encara més nitxos tancats 😔

Project GoToSocial - Migration Update 📡

Da sich immer deutlicher zeigt, dass GoToSocial mein Mastodon ersetzen wird, bin ich heute Nacht auf den externen VPS umgezogen.

Das Setup läuft mittlerweile richtig rund:

⚡ Performance: ~1/10 des Mastodon-Ressourcenbedarfs

Content-Discovery funktioniert perfekt - die föderierte Timeline ist gut gefüllt, ohne traditionelle Relays zu benötigen.

Ressourceneffizienz beeindruckend - der komplette Stack (GoToSocial + Tools) läuft mit einem Bruchteil dessen, was Mastodon allein braucht.

Heute Abend haben @theworldof_andrea_su, @janusode und @bash2 auf einen gemütlichen Tomaten-Gurken-Mozarella-Salat 🍅🥒🧀 getroffen und über das Fediverse und die Zukunft von momou.social gesprochen («Momou!», es sieht gut aus! Das Essen und die Zukunft!).

Inzwischen haben wir Mastodon auf Version 4.4.1 aktualisiert und den #FediFetcher als Ergänzung installiert.

I finally got around to trying out #FediFetcher - it's all up and running.

I'm mainly hoping to increase the backfilling of comments on the many posts I read.

One of the "fun" features of running a small instance is not being able to see *most* of the replies on any given post. Typically I have to open the original post in the browser from its home server to see the comments. That... sucks, to put it mildly.

I'll report my observations in the coming days.

I decided to rename my artifacts folder and put my config.json file in a new artifacts folder and it started running normally again. #MastoAdmin

Hi #mastoadmin I'm having an issue on a single user (+some bots) instance. I get "Nothing is trending right now. Check back later!" on the explore posts and news pages. the hashtag page is working it seems. I'm using fedi.buzz relays, I have #FediFetcher working but still nothing is populating. Can anyone suggest a fix?

If you are running FediFetcher as a GitHub Action it is really important that you read this Issue as well, as it contains additional important information.

TL;DR: versions prior to 7.1.16 are no longer working when running as GitHub Action. Version 7.1.16 will cease working in approximately 60 days, unless we find another workaround. Please read and subscribe to the issue for more info.

This version improves compatibility with Pleroma instances, and it also contains an important update for users who run FediFetcher as a GitHub Action.

@kay Install #Fedifetcher, as others have said.

Another thing, if you want more content from the wider fediverse than you and your users know about, join relays. You can join full-fledged relays or pick the content you want from https://relay.fedi.buzz by tags, or, their entire firehose (at the bottom of the page.)
