  1. The final track on the new album saw me digging out my Epiphone Electar, a recent reproduction of a lap steel guitar from 1939. I really ought to play it more often, it's fun.

This track started off as something I did for #FAWM but I kept on going back to it and redoing the bass part, because I wasn't satisfied with it. After each take, I'd hear something else I needed to go back and change. For take after take after take. It turned out all right in the end, though.

  2. The first track on my new #album was written as a theme tune for the sentiment against AI slop in the #FAWM Slack channel, where (for reasons which will remain obscure) tools like suno are referred to as cupcakes. Hates them, we does.

For the #entomologists out there: the buzzing noise that shifts from right to left and back is a slowed-down sample of a Death's-head hawkmoth, acherontia atropos. Because of course it is; that's how I roll.

  6. The #FAWM website went back into hibernation yesterday. After seven intense weeks of interacting with thousands of other songwriters, listening to their work and leaving comments about it, having dozens of fascinating conversations about music in the forums, and (as a moderator) ensuring that conversations about the use of AI remain civil and keeping the place free of spammers and scammers, it's always a shock when it all just... stops.

I guess I need to get back to work on my next album.

  7. I've polished up the #music I made for #FAWM into a mini album, under the new artist name Things only Cats can See. It sounds unlike anything I've made before, with more melody and less sound design. It's on #Mirlo, probably other platforms soon.

  8. #WritersCoffeeClub 28/2: How well did this short month go for you, in terms of writing?

Pretty good. I wrote 14 songs and 'won' FAWM. But there is still one day of February left, so I might even write a 15th...

  9. #FAWM

I did it! Some are nowhere near my best efforts, but in spite of the sight problem I wrote the lyrics for 14 new songs this month.
More than I'd usually write in a productive year, and those are rare.

  10. #FAWM update: I'm currently sitting at 17 songs written or co-written this month, with another three collaborations in progress. If you make #music, it's not too late to sign up...

  16. Ok. I really like what I managed to do in terms of my femvoice with this song. The singing part? Look... I'm trying to turn my baritone shit into a femme voice, the singing's gonna take a massive hit. So... it sucks... but the genre is kind of a nu metal punk, so... it fits the genre :P

Seriously though. After the first chorus... and especially the start to that bridge... I don't hear "him" anywhere and I am fucking ecstatic.

  20. Still hoping to complete FAWM, once I'm allowed to sit up for long enough to finish the ones I'd started last week.
But, experience from past finished projects is the if I take a break the inspiration vanishes.
Still a little hope stays with me. I've done 8 so far and maybe 5 or 6 days left after my eye heals.

  25. #FAWM track 7! Half way to the target. This one is called Pechvogel, because it was made on Friday the 13th and is in 13 time. Pechvogel is a German word for an unlucky person. Quite proud of this one.

  26. Silly me... There I was, telling myself I need to practise self-care more and take my foot off the gas a bit for #FAWM but no, thanks to a couple of intercontinental collabs, after just 13 days of the challenge I only need one more track to reach the target of 14 songs...

  27. Just wanted to post my favourite song I've heard on #FAWM so far. This is so silly and so pretty, have a listen:

  28. Y'know. I don't hate this one. Vocal performance wise it's dogshit, but that tension is nearly gone from the femvoice, and that's exciting to me, because that's my main focus. The amount of improvement I've made since the start of FAWM is really encouraging to me.

Let's be honest. I'm just doing voice training, and using FAWM as a backdrop... that's what it feels like.
