  1. "Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland said that he’s never seen this much interest in proportional representation from his colleagues. Representative Don Beyer of Virginia, along with Raskin and a handful of other legislators, have co-sponsored the Fair Representation Act for almost a decade now. It’s the most complete national solution to end gerrymandering and would create a more proportional House with larger, multimember districts and ranked-choice voting. According to their vision, every district nationwide becomes a swing district, and every delegation would more closely represent the politics and racial demographics of every state. Members who have never wanted to talk about it in the past are now asking Raskin how it works."

  2. How to actually win the #gerrymandering wars, cont. Pass the #FairRepresentationAct for the US House. Instead of partisan redistricting, the Fair Representation Act would require house members to be elected by #RankedChoiceVoting in multi-member districts. That will make gerrymandering impossible, make every election competitive and make the House much more socially and politically diverse. We can do the same in the #California legislature! #ProportionalRepresentation

FairVote on Bluesky. (US FairVote is not on fedi, sadly.)

  3. @benroyce @bytebro @sj

As @PaulAnomaly mentioned not all votes have the same value or influence.

We really need to pass The Fair Representation Act to get #ProportionalRepresentation for Congress to fix the systemic reasons that so many votes don't matter (are wasted) and remove the many negative incentives that keep people away from voting.

  4. I just heard about the #FairRepresentationAct, which seems to aim to do a lot to inhibit the impact of gerrymandering.

    More information about it: fairvote.org/our-reforms/fair-

Ask your rep. to support it with a couple clicks: p2a.co/ZraNU5n

(Put in your information, and it will identify your representative and auto-fill an example email. Sending *something* is more important than what you write, so you can just send that template if you don't have time/desire to write something else!)

  5. This is excellent. Touches on the #DebtLimit and 5 other elements of #USpolitics that are anti-democratic by design; eg, author Jon Schwarz quotes James Madison:

“to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority. The senate, therefore, ought to be this body.”

I also loved his mention of #RankedChoiceVoting and #MultiRepDistricts aka #FairRepresentationAct

  6. As embarrassing as this #House #Speaker debacle may be for Republicans, it is nice that they recognize that a body shouldn't choose its single leader by plurality vote, or else they'd be unable to vote for R alternatives to #KevinMcCarthy without wasting their votes and electing Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker.

They should put that conviction into practice and pass the #FairRepresentationAct to make #InstantRunoffVoting a reality for the election of their members, too.

  7. @benmcfc Have you seen this video from John Cleese? It’s a painless and amusing introduction to #ProportionalRepresentation.
