The Fadden By-election 2023 result is hardly a surprise. It was always a safe seat for the Liberal Party — heck, they were represented by the toxic ghoul, Stuart Robert. Given the scandal he created, and the Dutton Effect, it's a miracle the LNP suffered a swing of only 2.1% against them.

It's notable that Legalise Cannabis candidate won a substantial 9.4% of the vote, so well done to Suzette Luyken.

It's also notable that the Greens suffered a swing against them of 3.2%. Anyone know how that happened?

Fadden was won by Labor in 1983 upon the election of the Hawke government. However, due to redistributions over the years it's moved north toward Brisbane, been partly eaten by Rankin & moved back south. It wasn't considered a Gold Coast seat until 2004. That's why the ABC election site says Labor has won it but never won a federal Gold Coast seat.
