  1. A prominent Brisbane private school is reviewing how it vets guest speakers after an evangelical ministry trainee told year 7 and 8 students, during a chapel service, that they would go to hell if they were gay.

The trainee, from St Lucia Bible Church, spoke at St Peters Lutheran College in Indooroopilly. Head of college Tim Kotzur said the college regretted the comments and that, as a Lutheran school, it believes each person's dignity is not conditional on their sexuality.

The episode is a reminder of what religious instruction can carry into schools — including faith-based colleges that draw public funding — and of how damaging homophobic messaging can reach children under the banner of chapel and pastoral care.

  2. CW: One Notion

Australia's One Nation "facts don't matter" voters may belatedly, like 6th Army troops stuck outside Moscow, realise Facts Do Matter.

  3. From the same corrupt government who gave you "ID checks for ALL Australians online to *protect children*": Thousands of children with autism are about to be removed from the NDIS. Parents worry state schemes won't be ready to support them.

  5. Finally, logic.

100,000 more luxury cars doesn't make any one of those luxury cars more affordable just because there are more of them to sell.

Same, too, with housing. An inventory of expensive homes is still just as unaffordable.

  6. When Christine's grandson told her that a multi-million dollar plan to build a gaudy, massive Trump Tower on the Gold Coast had just been proposed, she didn't waste a minute.

Christine launched a campaign to stop Trump Tower being built on the Gold Coast – and the response is already building.

  7. #RenewableEnergy generation in Queensland has almost quadrupled since 2018, making up about 28% of the state’s #electricity.
“I’m very worried we will see a real loss of momentum,” said Dave Copeman, director of the Queensland Conservation Council (#QCC).. “And what #Queensland does can shape Australia, and what #Australia does can influence #Asia. I don’t think people get the significance.”
In April, the state government led by the premier, #StevenMiles, put into law its net zero emissions by 2050 target and a new 2035 goal to cut #emissions by 75% by 2035, based on 2005 levels, that was celebrated by #climate advocates. #qldpol #qldvotes

  8. This is an excellent policy, because many studies have shown that if children do not have sufficient food, they are unable to concentrate in class and it severely impacts their ability to learn and thus their life 🥗💐

  9. @RichForrest2 thanks for Sharing! The lack of political will to take responsibility and action is mind-blowing 🤯 these fossil fuel corps are playing the numbers game to bypass the need for an environmental impact statement, and then doing the same thing next door!? QLD politicians meanwhile ignoring the problem - looking at you, Steven Miles, do your job FFS - because the coal is not going to add to 'our' emissions... except that it's the same bloody atmosphere! 🌏 Planet destroying bureaucratic dumbfuckery at its best. At least it's being called out now, but the fact that it has gotten this far is infuriating. I'm longing for a world where disastrous proposals like these get nipped in the bud 🙅

    From the article:
"The mine is one of several applications that has been able to sidestep the EIS requirement as it is under the 2m tonne annual threshold.

Vitrinite will mine 1.95m tonnes of coal each year or up to 13.5m tonnes over a nine-year period.

The company has already been granted approval for an adjacent mine, Vulcan, in March 2022 that will also produce 1.95m tonnes each year."

Almost 20 years ago, the then federal Labor leader, Mark Latham, found himself in the crosshairs of a young upstart union official named #StevenMiles during a “politics at the pub” event in #Brisbane. The pair clashed over Labor values. Afterwards, Latham approached Miles and offered him a job #queensland #qldpol theguardian.com/australia-news
