(2/2) In Oregon, they've discovered increased and hazardous #pollution in the #groundwater:
"Investigations reveal that industrial megafarms in the area produce millions of gallons of nitrate-laden wastewater from fertilizers, which seeps into aquifers. Amazon’s facilities, while not directly responsible for this pollution, rely on vast amounts of water for cooling servers—up to millions of gallons daily per center. This demand strains local water supplies already tainted by agricultural runoff, potentially concentrating toxins and spreading them through community wells."The whole purpose of #NEPA and other environmental assessments is to ensure we have assessed and understand #risks. Business, of course, does best by being allowed to ignore risk, relying on #ExternalizedCosts to enhance their profitability.

Profit motive.
#War pays well.
What would it take to make war unprofitable? (It already is, of course, as it's enormously destructive of all our life-support ecosystems, but somehow that never makes it into the bookkeeping. It really should. Not counting it doesn't mean it doesn't count.) [See #ExternalizedCosts] -
