@waeiski Unfortunately, #Ethnologue is the only comprehensive database that provides polygon shapefiles for the spread of languages – at that is behind a high paywall. If you come across any database providing those openly, we would be very happy to know!

Has anybody used #Glottolog data?
It is a database of languoids, that is, it contains information on dialects, languages and language families globally, their geographical "ranges", and inter-language relations, and has potential for some pretty cool analyses. Awesome #OpenData for sure. However, I am unsure how it compares to #WALS or #Ethnologue data.

As per #Ethnologue catalog, there are over 7000 living languages worldwide. Only 320 (less than 5%) of these languages have representation across #Wikimedia projects, including #Wikipedia. How do we create new language editions? #WikimediaIncubator ⬇️
