Manchmal taucht verschüttet geglaubte Popkultur aus der Kindheit wieder auf wie ein Anruf aus einer anderen Zeit. Der Tiger von Malaysia gehört zu diesen seltsamen Erinnerungsstücken. Eine europäische Abenteuerserie über antikolonialen Widerstand, gedreht in den Siebzigern, getragen von Pathos, Romantik und einem erstaunlich klaren Feindbild: Dem britische Empire. Für mich eine großartige Kindheitserinnerung. Mit dem großen Kabir Bedi. (ARD, Wh.)

Set against the background of Rome's wars with Carthage, it introduced the character Maciste. He appeared in countless Italian movies right up to the 60s and became the major hero of the peplum genre.

Cabiria is in fact the ancestor of that entire genre.
