@midacre @afarnham @bgrinter A Canadian equivalent to the FAA's Low Level Wind Shear Alert System (LLWAS) may not have helped much in the case of the Delta 4819 crash. LLWAS makes an alert for controllers that they tell pilots. In this case without LLWAS, ATC did give the pilots an alert about low level winds based on pilot reports & existing equipment. Toronto overturned plane video
Clearly hit hard and early. Loss of lift?
Addendum: From the comments on the youtube article, a few things of note. People that live there lined up landmarks from the video, and concluded that the plane did not touch down early. Apparently, the ADS-B data is not accurate enough. The winds were extremely strong and extremely gusting. The plane was not level before contact. The pilots may have been fighting those winds, especially a major gust. And then the gust died.

It's scary to think that it's been almost exactly 20 years since Air France Flight 358 went down at Pearson. Thankfully in both accidents, no lives were lost.

Multiple confirmations now that all passengers/crew on board #DL4819 have survived the crash, though 3 people were brought to local hospitals. This is a testament to the regulations and safety standards of modern airliners that something like this bad is 100% survivable. bsky.app/profile/rory...

The FAA has also issued a statement on #DL4819, confirming that all 80 people on board were evacuated from the aircraft. Notes that Canada's TSB will lead the investigation.

The last @flightradar24.com data point for #DL4819 shows it at the probably point of touchdown, at a descent rate of -1,024 FPM which is quite high.
