  7. Hi! I'm a new principal research scientist at Pluralsight's Developer Success Lab. Looking for folks interested in #DeveloperThriving and #statistics and #philsci <3

  8. @grimalkina 100% and it's all with the aim of making doing software development better for the HUMANS with their hands in the code! #DeveloperExperience #DeveloperThriving

  9. Y'all, the Developer Success Lab is thrilled to announce that we’re giving two talks AND facilitating two workshops at LeadDev London this June, 10-12th!

  10. I'm excited to share that ⏰ @11:50 a.m. ET on April 25th, I'm moderating a session with Developer Success Lab research scientists @CSLee and @grimalkina titled "Science-Backed Strategies to Advance Your Tech Career."

In this session, Dr. Hicks and Dr. Lee will share their insights around topics like code review anxiety, learning culture, motivation, etc.

You can sign up here! We hope to see you there 😊 bit.ly/devsuccesslab-techskill

  11. @jennski
Excellent point! @claresudbery makes a similar one for #DevelopmentTeam|s. In her talk "Let's stop making each other feel stupid", she argues that only by encouraging people to ask questions and to never feel ashamed for not knowing something, you allow everybody to thrive and grow.

Also, the talk is really entertaining: youtube.com/watch?v=IwMAADcB1u

  12. Findings included that:
✅ Hackathons decrease anxiety and increase belonging.
✅ Many people come to hackathons with existing anxieties that can impact their success.
✅ Characteristics of the team can change the likelihood of success.
✅ Hackathons can serve as impactful social interventions.

There are existing rituals and ceremonies in the software space that, when planned and facilitated thoughtfully, can truly do an incredible job of increasing #DeveloperThriving and #DeveloperExperience .

  13. I boosted this earlier today, but now that I finished watching this great video about #LearningCulture in #SoftwareEngineering, I feel this needs to be put in front of more people!

One of the main points that @claresudbery makes in her talk "Let's stop making each other feel stupid" is that by encouraging people to ask questions (and never feel ashamed for not knowing something), you allow your #DevelopmentTeam to thrive and grow.

  14. My brilliant colleague @CSLee writes a comic about software engineering stuff and it's HILARIOUS. Also insightful.

If nothing else you'll get to see what a *sheepcatdog* looks like.

  15. A few weeks ago, I decided to make my first ever science comic about some of our research. I hope you love these lil blobs as much as I do! The comic continues in the comments :) #developers #DeveloperThriving #SoftwareEngineering @seresearchers

  16. Friends, I gave talk about my lab's research (headed by the ever brilliant @grimalkina ) on #DeveloperThriving at #NeverWorkInTheory and I'm super excited to share that the recording is now live. Some key takeaways: 1) #Developers deserve more than satisfaction; developers deserve to THRIVE. 2) We can measure thriving. 3) It predicts #productivity 4) I hand knit the top I'm wearing.

  17. Very nice study on developer productivity from Pluralsight, recognizing:

    - "Developer thriving": motivation, belonging, learning culture, and agency
    - "Visibility and Value": of technical work, by teammates and management
