Has anyone done some research on Devanagari to Latin transliteration?

I am working on transliterating song lyrics in some android app. I found ISO-15919 and IAST, but both of them read a bit wrong to me.

For instance 'च' gets transliterated as 'C' and it always reads very wrong.

Also the words ending in a consonant also get transliterated as ending in an 'a'. This one is more tricky because it would be correct in Sanskrit.

For Adding #Devanagari and #Tamil to Samaano, I had references of curveless letter design in form of picture of sign boards or movie posters, but for #Odiya / #Oriya, I did not get any such material. So unsure how much legible my curveless letters will be for Oriya

We equate #language with script. That is true in most cases, but not always.

We make words and sentences in a language, but we write them in a script. Text from a language can be written in different scripts. And text from different languages can be written in the same script. ✍️ #writing #distinction

Both #Sanskrit and #Hindi texts are primarily written in #Devanagari script. And it is quite common to write Sanskrit text (especially scriptures) in the scripts of other Indian #languages.

I don't have the complete citation, but this #Sanskrit verse from the #Hindu epic #Mahabharata is timelessly relevant to all domains. First the English meaning and then the source text in different scripts.

Meaning:
A little work done with knowledge has great import.
A lot of work done with ignorance has no benefit.

E.g., a small piece of software, like a function, developed with full understanding can be very useful. OTOH, a large piece of software, like an entire service, is of no use if it's developed with no understanding of requirements or engineering principles.

most #Hindi books on OpenLibrary -- and therefore on #BookWyrm -- don't have any metadata in #Devanagari. instead, all of it is transliterated into some weird Romanized version Hindi that nobody knows how to read.

it's insulting and offensive to not store data about a Hindi book in the original script. like, why?? who benefits from this???

i've been going through all my Hindi books on Bookwyrm and changing all the metadata into Devanagari. i'm sure i'm breaking a bunch of associations in the process, but fuck that.
