  1. The European Commission unveils €3bn to boost green fuels for aviation and shipping.

It announced a €2.9billion plan to scale up investments in green fuels by 2027 to curb carbon dioxide emissions from aviation and maritime transport, together accounting for roughly 26.4% of EU transport-sector emissions.

The plan comes as the bloc is falling short of decarbonising heavy transport by 2050.

It has a stunning bow profile.

This #ABC magazine moment has a bit of a look at the Ferry under construction and some of the issues around #decarbonising
    shipping.

You had better like #Aluminium there is quite a lot of it here.

  3. "The International Maritime Organization, the UN division that governs global #shipping, will meet in London today for a fortnight of talks on #decarbonising and the potential for a new levy of up to $100 (£78) a tonne of carbon produced by ships.

Research published on Monday found that #CO2 from shipping could be cut by between a third and a half this decade by using already available techniques and embarking on innovative technology such as hydrogen."

  4. Interesting piece in #TheEconomist who attribute 68,000 excess deaths in #Europe to high energy prices. Who to blame?

Putin obviously for weaponising #energy in the invasion of #Ukraine.

Successive governments for not #Decarbonising and #insulating buildings faster?

Voters and consumers for not demanding #EnergyEfficiency and a resilient robust society?

Ultimately perhaps blame is not constructive: but I feel this analysis does show where to focus efforts

  13. CW: Carbon offsets rant

Last year, my team and I went through a pre accelerator program with a pitch on #decarbonising critical minerals. We talked to 35 key leaders in the industry and learned so much and things are moving fast. Still, I was shocked by the extent that BS offsets prevent the rise of real #climate solutions—and how much people are willing to pay for them. I mean I see all the big majors having offsets prominent in their 2050 roadmap. But it's another thing to see actual bad everyday environmental/ financial decisions being made just for the purpose of tricking carbon accounting.

  14. Hello 👋

I'm a policy advisor working on #decarbonising the UK economy.

I'm exploring how to build a more complete picture of emissions. E.g. what a regulator might look like for #carbonaccounting #Carbonoffsetting #carbonremoval and #carbonmarkets.

Also interested in global #carbonstandards #lowcarboneconomy and #CircularEconomy

I'm fascinated by #systemsthinking and #wickedproblems in #policy and #politics and I'm doing a PhD in this part time.
