  1. Here's some good news:

    The looming death of a cruel #monopoly with a deep #history of #colonial #exploitation, #humanrights abuses, fueling #terrorism and #warlords

You see, when you can grow it in a lab, nobody cares anymore about your dirty price fixing games, #DeBeers

    Welcome to oblivion

History books will not write "ooh! sparkly!"

They will write about the toll of human suffering you inflicted

  2. I was listening to #BBCWorldService and a programme about the #diamond industry. I learnt #DeBeers has created a #blockchain based system, #Tracr, to track the source of diamonds and store immutably. This could be a great use of the tech. However it seems to be a completely proprietary system and does not run on top of one of the large blockchains. So what guarantees immutability? If nothing else, De Beers themselves can take down or change data?

Difficult to find any real information.

  3. a 18 million dollar watch?! seriously???
    #diamonds, sugar, ...basically the same*

and no #debeers, #diamonds are not forever, they are combustible

*now the real clever clogs will remark that a sack of coal would be more correct and then the slightly raised energy potential etc. yes. i. am. aware. ;P

  4. If you think that De Beers is an evil company and if you’ve seen the Adam Ruins Everything sketch about the scam of diamond engagement rings 💍 and enjoyed it, then Showtime’s 2022 documentary Nothing Lasts Forever would be right up your alley.

Netflix picked this film for streaming and I really enjoyed it. And jewelry designer Aja Raden is my spirit animal. 💎

  5. Unexpected truth in advertising. Looks like #DeBeers overlooked some obvious exclusions to their paid search engine results.

  6. Er ist so groß wie ein Hühnerei: In einem Bergwerk des afrikanischen Staates Botswana ist einer der größten jemals gefundenen Diamanten entdeckt worden. Der Diamant hat mehr als 1000 Karat! | DW | 17.06.2021 #Diamant #Riesendiamant #Botswana #Botsuana #Debswana #DeBeers #Afrika
