  1. This is #Daruma, a Japanese doll based on the image of an ancient monk who supposedly meditated for so long that his legs fell off. Daruma has become an emblem of #resilience, #tenacity, and getting things done. No matter how many times you push Daruma over, he rights himself. He endures many setbacks, but he cannot be vanquished.

    When you see an image of Daruma, remember: you are #free, you are stronger than you think, and you cannot be pushed around by bullies and #tyrants.

  2. Day trip to Takasaki (Part 1)

    Today, we went to Takasaki, the largest city in Gunma Prefecture. Here is a set of unprocessed, out-of-camera photos from our first stop, Shōrinzan Darumaji. It is here at this temple, several hundred years ago, that the first Daruma dolls were made.
