How to tell you're traveling in rural Japan? Instead of a Shinkansen flying over the countryside at 180MPH or a smooth interurban at 85MPH, you get a 50-year-old rail diesel car snorting, wheezing, and lumbering down the line at 50MPH... if the wind is blowing the right way.
But JR West turned their aging KiHa 40 series DMU's from a minus to a plus with a livery (inside and out) of Shigeru Mizuki's yōkai. Boarding at Yonago's Platform 0 — which is also yōkai themed — adds to the general weirdness.

What is even more exciting is that Kyoto did this using @sakailms.
I can't help but wonder what the costs to the campus might have been if Kyoto was licensing a proprietary #LMS and increased use by 500%?
I was also interested to hear that, despite Kyoto's increased demand, no additional technical staff were needed to support the larger user community, highlighting the stability and scalability of #Sakai specifically and #OpenSource generally.

So we're off to #Sakai again - partner elected to skip, it's just me and the kids [they wanted more of that kurimimochi kakigori *] And yes it's the Hankai tram again and the teku teku (take take) ticket we're getting.
