Love how #COPTR helps us framing what #digipres is, in practice, without elaborating dangerous definitions...
"The scope is a broad interpretation of the term "digital preservation”. In other words, if a tool is useful in performing a digital preservation function such as those described in the OAIS model or the DCC lifecycle model, then it's within scope of this registry. In scope: Characterisation, visualisation, rendering, migration, storage, fixity, access, delivery, search, web archiving"

In the #COPTR relaunch session!
"The Community-Owned digital Preservation Tool Registry (COPTR) is a place to find tools to try, and workflows to learn from, to help you take care of your digital collections"

@anj @mickylindlar thanks for spotting that Andy, we'll get it corrected!
Btw, I see a potential connection between CPPs and "activities" / "capabilities" that you identified for #COPTR... I don't know how both could work together though!

New addition to #COPTR: TweakPNG, a tool to inspect the internal structure of a #PNG, i.e., the chunks, and their content.
https://coptr.digipres.org/TweakPNG
The tool is able to return a validity status. You can also add chunks and import an ICC profile.
Unfortunately, the tools runs only on Windows...

@itgrrl Hi! We're currently wondering how to fix up #COPTR (eg https://github.com/orgs/digipres/discussions/53) - if you have any ideas or feedback please do let us/me know. Thank you!

I'm working on enabling the #DigiPres parts of our org by making some of the #COPTR Tool Grid apps available securely in a managed #Windows environment - first cab off the rank is a #Java app with bundled #JRE, which won't play well with our env 😕
does anyone have experience using #maven & #jpackage as part of a build pipeline to create OS-native installers? my short-term target is a Windows MSI, but once that's in place the same pipeline should be able to spit out native installers for macOS (which we also use) & Linux (which we don't - yet 😈)
I'm at the point where I'm about to clone the repo & start tinkering 😫 but would much rather re-use something already built than figure it out from docs & example code...
#boost4reach pls 🙏

#Archivematica (so strange the org has no presence on Mastodon, while being so involved into open source) has developed a METS-validator (https://github.com/artefactual-labs/mets-validator/).
The reason why I have not been aware of it is because... it has no #COPTR entry. (unlike METS Flask).
Conclusion: developers, please create entries in COPTR, it's become the reference for DP tools.

And I created an entry in #COPTR:

@bishbashbackup your tool would be a nice addition to the list of tools handling #PREMIS metadata in #COPTR https://coptr.digipres.org/index.php/PREMIS_(Preservation_Metadata_Implementation_Strategies)
It's a wiki, so you can easily create an entry.

OPF and DPC, look at this nice #COPTR relative. Couldn't this SSH Open Marketplace and COPTR join forces? https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/ @sarah_dpc @Georgia. Thank you very much, @nilsreichert for pointing me to this.

@dericed There was also a great question: Is the documentation in #COPTR? Answer: We don’t have it now, but maybe could be an outcome of the Camera Card Convening in December. So DC #avpres folks: There will be a Camera Card Convening on December 11 in DC. @cristalyze is organizing, so possibly reach out to her if you're interested. #NTTW7

interesting discussion that followed about how #COPTR is used to find tools.
perfect segue to plug that the #OPF are hosting Dr. Amber Cushing from Univ. Dublin next month to talk about how users discover, learn and select their #digitalpreservation tools https://openpreservation.org/events/how-do-users-discover-digital-curation-tools/?q=8167 !!
