  16. At around noon CET today, the European Parliament plenary will vote on tightening CO2 standards for heavy duty vehicles (debate starting at 10 AM).
Attempts in committee and in the Council (Member States) to include fuel mix options in the CO2 standards were fortunately unsuccessful. See the attached post for more details.
There's still a risk that they will be introduced in plenary today.

  21. This morning, the ENVI committee of the European Parliament voted on their position on the proposed CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles - broadly aligned with the Council position, a bit more ambitious on the trailers. Also here, no support for the fuels industry push for a 'carbon correction factor'

  26. It is important to add that this is now the negotiating position of the member states (the so-called "general approach") for the upcoming trilogue. The other two negotiating parties: European Commission 🇪🇺 (the basis is their proposal) and the Environment Committee of the European Parliament, led by Dutch Green MEP Bas Eickhout. The Parliament is expected to adopt its position next week (24 Oct).

  31. Important finding of new #ICCT briefing on 🇪🇺 #CO2standards for cars and vans:

As the share of EVs increases, new internal combustion engine cars may actually be more polluting. I am not sure that many #EV buyers will want to allow someone else to register a large fossil SUV🦕 because of their EV🔌

On the contrary, leaving the Commission proposal unchanged would lead to underused infrastructure and tougher business cases for charge point operators."
