#Zambia's #miombo #woodlands may be #adapted to #fire, but illegal burns can still threaten its unique #flora and #fauna, so I'm proud of all the #Gonzaga in #Chimfunshi students who leapt into action when volunteers were needed to quell the flames on a nearby #dambo (flooded #grassland)!

It's hard to believe that the #Gonzaga in #Chimfunshi has been on site in this particularly beautiful corner of #Zambia 🇿🇲 for nearly a week! After a few days around #Lusaka, we've been exploring ecology and culture on the banks of the #Kafue since last Tuesday!

For a #mammalian #paleobiologist, one of the most exciting prospects of visiting #Africa is getting to see many of the #animals you've studied in #fossil form in the flesh. As I teach the #Gonzaga in #Chimfunshi program in #Zambia 🇿🇲, I'll be sharing my relevant #wildlife sightings here.

I'm excited beyond words to be able to be one of the leaders of the #Gonzaga in #Chimfunshi study abroad course in #Zambia 🇿🇲 this summer, and in honor of the region and its #paleontological #heritage, my #FossilFriday posts for the next few months are going to feature #fossils from the countries of the #Zambezi Basin: #Angola 🇦🇴 , #Botswana 🇧🇼 , #Malawi 🇲🇼 , #Mozambique 🇲🇿 , #Namibia 🇳🇦 , #Tanzania 🇹🇿 , #Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 , and, of course, Zambia.
