Mu Lan et al. investigated the effects of warming and increased precipitation on soil C cycling in a temperate desert steppe of Inner Mongolia using metagenomic sequencing. The results suggest that warming is beneficial to soil C storage while increased precipitation negatively affects soil C sequestration.

Incorporating changes in oceanic bathymetry over the last 80 million years into a carbon cycling model finds that bathymetric changes account for 33-50% of the variation in oceanic carbon sequestration. Bathymetry appears to be more important than atmospheric CO2, water termperature, and silicate and carbonate inputs, which have all been thought to be drivers of carbon sequestration.

Based on #mesocosm studies, this research demonstrates how #viruses infecting different #microorganisms change community dynamics and the release and potential fate of marine carbon from primary production.
