Finished _The Stone Sky_. This one paced a little slower than the first two, but, wow, what a trilogy.

Started _The Stone Sky_ by N.K. Jemisin. It’s the final book in the Broken Earth trilogy.

Finished _The Obelisk Gate_.
I thought this one was great, and it even increased my appreciation for the first book of the series. Jemisin captures the emotional tension of the characters so well.

I’m in the middle of N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy, which made this XKCD particularly relevant.

Finished _The Fifth Season_.
I liked it. I thought it was well written. The way the story unfolds kept me consistently intrigued as the details of this world became increasingly dystopian.

😄🙏🏽

Might be running a #burningwheel game soon, and I'm thinking of shamelessly ripping off Arx Fatalis and NK Jemisin's #brokenearth novels. My quandary is which of these is most exciting:
1) The immediate aftermath of the cataclysm as a group moves into a vault/shelter
2) The internal dynamics of a community while the cataclysm still rages outside, no end in sight
3) The fate of a group as the calamity begins to subside and leaving the "vault" becomes viable

CW: My 2023 reading according to @[email protected] my @[email protected] account at lectura.social
Mostly dominated by female written sci-fi with Ursula K Leguin #Earthsea complete books, then the #brokenEarth trilogy by N.K. Nemisin, and finally the #binti series by Nnedi Okorafor. I had also some time for a bit of graphic novels and my first novel written in Catalan in ages.

@reginasbread You might like N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth Trilogy (The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, The Stone Sky). I should warn that there are also younger heroes, but if you want a story about a middle-aged woman who has seen some shit and is tired, so very very tired, of trying to save the world for people who hate her...
(also, Jemisin's prose is on par with Dylan Thomas, would be the other reason to read it)
