  17. Say I wanted to move my own blog off medium - are there any good open source frameworks out there? preferably for react or next? Back in my indie days I wrote my own blog in PHP, but I think times have moved on... #takebacktheweb #bringbackblogs

  18. "Bring back blogs" sounds like a really good idea! - What have I gotten myself into over the years? I'm being fed one idiotic clickbait story after another on facebook and google news - I'm going back to RSS, follow interesting people who write about things they care about simply because they care about them - not for clicks, not for the ad money, just because they're awesome people! I've you've got a blog, hit me! bringback.blog #takebacktheweb #bringbackblogs

  19. How to use Tasker to enable locking your screen with Google Assistant
Ever since I started being able to talk to my Android phone, I've wanted to be able to tell it to lock my screen. And ever since then, Google Assistant has stubbornly refused to do it. I can't imagine why Google hasn't implemented this feature; they obvio

  20. Why you should stop circulating that study about COVID in poop from airplanes (a.k.a. please stop screwing up the messaging about COVID safety)
It's a bad study, it doesn't prove anything about whether it is or isn't safe to fly, you should stop circulating it, and you should stop and think about the impact that catastrophizing flying is having on COVID being taken seriously (or not) by the public.

  21. Today's #JikBlogFlashback (blog.kamens.us/2023/01/02/your) is actually a new blog posting in honor of #BringBackBlogs month (bringback.blog/). Here I explain what I'm doing (and you can too!) to regularly back up my Mastodon data so that I won't lose it if my server goes away. Thanks to @kensanata for writing the tool to make this possible!

  22. Just as on Twitter, seeing insanely long threads here that'd work so much better as a blog post. One the other day was 45 parts or so! Seems a waste to write something interesting in a format that's difficult to read/share/find again later. #BringBackBlogs

  23. My February contribution to #BringBackBlogs:

Email plus aliases allow you to create unlimited unique email addresses by putting a + and word after your user name. It’s useful for all sorts of reasons and many people seem to not know about this feature, so I wrote about it.

  24. I was busy writing a grant proposal in January, but here is my first contribution to #BringBackBlogs.

When I was at Stripe, I would see dates like 3/4 and have to know if the person who wrote it was in SF or Dublin to know if they meant March 4 or April 3.

There is a date format internationally recognized and endorsed by multiple industry standards bodies. It's the only one you should use with an international team. I wrote about it.

Unfortunately I didn't fulfill my #bringbackblogs pledge (3 blog posts in January) and just managed to write one on the last possible day. But I point the blame at my elbow, which I promptly broke at the beginning of January 😅 (nearly all good now)

Anyway, here it is - my recap of participating in the the #NaNoGenMo 2022:

  26. I wanted to add my to the thing and realized the signups are closed :blobcatderpy:

I checked the page many times and forgot to do it until today lol

At least I met the requirements of a minimum of 3 posts for January. Unlike *some* blogs I checked in their directory :blobfoxannoyed:

  27. Finished 3rd blogpost for the month, just in time to meet the #BringBackBlogs requirements 🥳

This one's more of a technical guide on setting up WiFi on a minimal Debian server. Had trouble finding a comprehensive guide, so sharing my knowledge & experience on the matter.
That's what blogging is all about, right? 😊

FYI all my photos have a supporting blog article and additional photos on my website. Although I may not always include it with every toot, if you want a link let me know and I will share it.
