    jour 15 : #pont

  4. MEMORIAL BRIDGE
    1923 - 2012

The first no toll bridge to span the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME.

A plaque over the bridge read:

"Memorial to the Sailors and Soldiers of New Hampshire who gave their lives in the World War 1917–1919."

That same plaque is now over the new bridge.

For those looking to traverse the University Bridge by foot or bike, this is what you're dealing with as we head toward sunset. (From my walk back after a coffee break.)

Yesterday I found out about the #BridgesOfMastodon project. I love bridges, boats under them and leaning over the railing. This wonderful bridge #PontduGard spans the river #Gardon, (south of France) it was built in the 1st century as an aquaduct meant to bring water to lower cities. Lateron the lower part (20ft wide) was used as a bridge.
