Und obwohl mir die 2000er näher sein müssten, finde ich die Referenzen aus der Zeit einfach nicht so interessant wie die 1960er- und 1970er-Gegenkultur oder die Aufklärung.
Das außen vor ist es natürlich trotzdem eine super Erzählung über die Dotcom-Blase und einige Verschwörungserzählungen um 9/11. So, jetzt isses auch schon wieder eine Weile her, dass ich den letzten Pynchon endlich ausgelesen habe.
Obwohl es der vielleicht der am wenigsten misogyne Roman von ihm ist, finde ich es trotzdem den zweitschlechtesten: Wie alle Pynchon-Romane aus diesem Jahrhundert ist mir die Story zu normal erzählt, viel zu geradlinig, viel zu viele Dialoge, viel zu wenig postmoderner Exzess. Außerdem kein sprechender Hund, kein Were-Beaver und keine automatic duck.

My first foray into the mind of Thomas Pynchon. Admittedly, the rambling, surrealism, and paranoia of Bleeding Edge was close to having the better of me (and probably did). I can see why people like his writing, but I feel I lack the necessary cultural sophistication to truly enjoy the story.
I don't know if you can call a 2013 novel 'prescient' as such, but one quote stayed with me after putting the book down. I'll add it below.

No spoons to re-subscribe to lkml and report this though.

Never change a running system. In der Arbeit auf Ubuntu 24.10 upgegraded und was ist los: Intellij spingt rum und faengt an random rumzuhaengen. Scheinbar hat ubuntu meine inotify settings vergessen, aber selbst das zu fixen hat nicht geholfen. not sure if new, but i am getting a lot of leaks in Xcode 16.1… only thing here are my #SwiftData model objects, and i am sure I am just using standard relationships between them.
Also props to #xcode tooling for making loops/leaks so obvious. II think it's downgrade time
EDIT: Not new. Happens when using 18.0. It also happens on iPadOS 17.7, so it isn't new to 18. I only noticed because I am testing more data set types now.

@sbisson I followed the instructions Microsoft provided talking about the DirectML and how to install the pre-alpha NPU drivers from Qualcomm... and it messed up AI features related to camera/microphone
So I rolled back to the previous driver and all is back to normal. Oddly though I looked on the Qualcomm website and the pre-alpha NPU drivers are no longer available for download. hmmm... maybe they noticed some quality issues 🤔

I updated my phone to iOS 18. I guess it's time to start porting my app to iOS 18! Jokes aside, I just haven't bothered with testing out any of the betas as there simply isn't anything at all interesting in iOS 18 for a developer. I guess there are a few small view modifiers in SwiftUI that may be of interest, but that's all. A boring update isn't bad though, it just means the product is mature and Apple isn't innovating (aka breaking) much.

@v89 #Fedora is usually the #bleedingedge, incorporates the latest pieces of #software and works stable. I used it for years with success. Could be al little bit tricky with confusing #update strategy but nevertheless ..

Oggi ho installato #DebianSid con interfaccia #LXQt.
LXQt è diventato il mio DE su #ArchLinux e mi ci sto trovando molto bene.
So perfettamente che potrei andare incontro a dei problemi ma questa installazione è solo un test e non ho nulla di importante sopra, sicuramente mi insegnerà qualcosa.

Seems like I've just cut myself at the bleeding edge of #Bevy #BevyEngine 🩸
When you use `InputPlugin` in your unit test and do a press on an input, the `just_pressed` state get's cleared after calling `app.update()`😬:
The workaround is to manually insert the Input resources.😌

Sometimes I think I am the only person on the planet that immediately patches whenever a patch comes out - regardless of OS, platform, security patch or not, critical application or not - and I don't test things first.
In the 90s I learned through trial and error that patch testing didn't help much, there were always problems with deploying patches, so since one had to get good at recovering from a "bad patch" it made more sense to simply take all of those testing efforts and focus them on fixing any patch problems after the fact. This had the plus of getting software fixes in place quicker, including security fixes.
It does mean you have to do backups, know how to recover down systems using backups, and in general have a good "break glass" recovery plan. Please tell me I am not the only one.
