@xmpp
#XMPP #CertWatch said that »[My] settings are correct and no MITM was detected.« That's great.
It then continued with some #PubSub stuff and finally said »If you do not have a pubsub-capable client you can subscribe for text notifications by opening a chat with certwatch.xmpp.net and sending the message “subscribe <my xmpp server>”«.
My question is now: How do I open a chat with a hostname and not a JID?
My clients are #Gajim resp. #Conversations / #BlabberIM.
Anyone? -

CW: app sideload problems
@Muller nope, it was #BlabberIM (a fork of #ConversationsIM). I'm thinking I'll just see if there's anything else available or go with Quicksy...

The #BlabberIM version 3.1.2 was released yesterday.
For Playstore users: please update the playstore version manually. This is necessary, because I can't update the app via the playstore (Google deleted the app). Further updates will be recognised by the internal updater. You should inform and/or help all playstore users you are knowing.

@eversten
@admicos #BlabberIM, #Quicksy -- both stem from #Conversations, free in PlagStore (warning, Quicksy tries to emulate contact discovery by phone number, so it asks for one). A bit forgotten nowadays, but quite feature-complete is #aTalk.
For iOS... the only iOS person I know is my 80+ aunt, who uses only iMessage, so no first-hand experience here; I've heard good things about @Monal and @[email protected].
There are (were?) some general iOS problems with keeping app/connection alive, but I don't remeber details nor know if it's still the case. -
