Tuttavia, i residenti di Sheikh Jarrah e le organizzazioni della società civile che si occupano di Gerusalemme Est e di pianificazione urbana, tra cui le organizzazioni no-profit #Bimkom e #IrAmim, sostengono da tempo che il vero obiettivo del piano quinquennale della città è quello di ebraicizzare i quartieri palestinesi di Gerusalemme Est, visto che questo sarebbe il quinto quartiere ebraico a Sheikh Jarrah pianificato dal Guardiano generale di Israele.
Il nuovo piano fa parte dei numerosi progetti di costruzione ebraica che Israele ha iniziato a promuovere a Gerusalemme Est e oltre la Linea Verde, in coincidenza con il cambio di amministrazione statunitense e il ritorno di Donald #Trump alla Casa Bianca. ⬇️5
