Sometimes people don’t use the bike lights legally required in their locale because they don’t know the laws (e.g., for California, https://bikemonterey.org/wp-content/uploads/CA-bike-law-summary-bilingual-2025.pdf). Other times, there are other reasons—in some cases, it’s that their family budget hasn’t allowed purchasing a reliable light.

When a widely renowned Monterey County business, Light & Motion, ceased operations this year after 35 years, we became eager to know of other reliable lights for cycling.

That’s why we checked out the new KOM Cycling Quick Release 1000 lumen light. We do a lot of night riding, including on dark rural roads, and we appreciate this degree of brightness!
