[P] I'm glad I'm not alone about this. The handling of suicide by The Orville: New Horizons was Evil. The way zombified, lemmingly homunculi reacted to suicide survivors not appreciating it was Evil. It takes such an absence of empathy to not be fucked up by this.

[P] I'm so upset I'm shaking. I kept watching to see if the old The Orville (from the first two seasons) would come back, and because I wanted to see if I was overreacting or the show had really gone from comedic hope to Dark Triad depravity. If this is really the show Seth McFarlane wanted to make, w8th suicide encouragement targeting depressed people IN THE FIRST EPISODE??? I think I hate Seth McFarlane.

Latest regency novel is set in the Highlands but only as seen though a USA author who failed to do their basic research.
Two women from the country are in a shop in Inverness. One recommended two tartans because she liked the colours.
The younger one brought a third because she preferred those colours.
No direct mention that she was wearing her clan tartan as a plaid at the time, but the author wrote about her clan and said she always wore her plaid a few times before this. -
I end up trying with the rubbish because I need to read.
The latest not only buttered biscuits at breakfast but referred several times to the waste can in the drawing room.

I have joined an FB group in which people post about errors in so-called regency novels.
Even without the author and title I recognise some of the books I've paid for. Most of which had 5 star reviews from Americans who don't know history or think it doesn't matter.
I've suspected for a while that the authors share a list of words, or one editor, that perpetuates the errors. A quick skim down the posts suggests I am correct. -
Latest blunder by an author. Set in about 1920 and the cook made apple cinnamon muffins for breakfast. In rural England.
Why do USA authors think USA food is eaten elsewhere?
I remember being in a supermarket a few years ago when an elderly woman was berating a young assistant who showed her American muffins. "Those are buns", she said. "I want proper muffins."
Yes! Why did UK shops insist we used the name muffin for a cake when muffins are a type of bread? -
Latest USA author thinks that intent and intense mean the same thing. "His eyes grew more intent" followed a couple of sentences later with him looking intensely at her.
Better to use the same word twice than try to vary vocabulary but get it wrong.I am feeling increasingly nervous about publishing my next book as I've had to rely on Beta readers instead of an editor for most of it. But at least my stories set in England use English vocabulary.

There are some excellent USA authors who do their research. But too many who don't.
7 or 8 days from London to Manchester by carriage, then 3 days by horse from there to Gretna.
You won't be surprised to learn they also put cream in cups of tea. -
Latest regency novel has blueberries available in London over 100 years before the first plants arrived.
Plus several of the common social/society errors and a narrator who pronounces phaeton the American way and whose Scottish accents wander around several areas of the country.
I wish I had done enough research when younger so that I could write a real historical novel.
