This baby robin was told it evolved from the dinosaurs and took it to heart. Maybe wants to be a Triceratops when it grows up

We have finally been lucky enough to have 2 baby Robins at last. We thought that they must have failed as it is so late for their first brood. Then 2 turned up. Here’s the first being given a meal. More of these to follow.

The Blackbirds have been doing well, bringing their young to the garden to feed. We now have at least 6 youngsters visiting the feeders or being fed by the adults

This young Blue Tit was practicing its abseiling technique. It was pretty impressive watching it tie the line at the top

This little beauty is a Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata). We had not cut the grass in the garden at all this year to allow it to be a bit wild. The benefit has been the huge number of different insects. Insects are a key part in the food chain for birds.

Starlings are very striking birds. At this time of year they are like piranhas of the avian world and will strip a ground feeder in minutes of its contents!

Robins on the other hand nearly always look happy, but they will let you know if the feeder is empty 🙂

I said earlier about making a perch for birds to settle on. My daughter found a long stick on the ground by the river, about a metre and a half long. We stuck it in the ground to make a perch. That was last November. It sprouted leaves and now we have a new tree! It’s a Black Poplar and grows to 30m, so we’ll have to give it a home back near the river. They are rare now in the UK. Great perch though. #Birds #Nature #NaturePhotography #RSPB #BirdPhotograpy #BTO #BirdsofMastodon #BabyBirdWatch

The #BlueTits have brought their fledglings too. They don’t seem to have been so successful this year though. The parents have worked so hard, going back and forth to feed them.

The ground feeder was empty and Bob (my daughter is naming them now) the #Robin came to the window to let us know what he thought.

Putting a perch in a place where you can get a good view is really helpful to getting good portraits. This old garden spade makes a great perch and the background is far enough away to give a fabulous soft surround. This is one of the baby #Blackbirds making use of it.

This baby #Dunnock was making the most of the sunshine, which has been in short supply in its young life, sunning itself while it had the chance.

This brave #Blackbird dad has been really busy taking food to a nest in the ivy on the fence. When a #Sparrowhawk took a #Goldfinch and started to eat it on the back fence about 1m from his nest he dive bombed the Sparrowhawk and managed to chase it away without giving away the position of the nest.

It’s getting quite busy now with lots of young coming into the garden. This is one of 4 new #Blackbirds. Some are still being fed and a couple are looking after themselves.

This is just one of the dangers fledglings have to face. It is itself a young one. This Sparrowhawk took a Goldfinch in the garden nextdoor and devoured it on the fence. #Birds #Nature #NaturePhotography #RSPB #BirdPhotograpy #BTO #BirdsofMastodon #BabyBirdWatch

We have a new edition to the #Blackbird family and it has already made itself at home. It is a strong one, even threatening the starlings when they come to the feeder. #Birds #Nature #NaturePhotography #RSPB #BirdPhotograpy #BTO #BirdsofMastodon #BabyBirdWatch

#BabyBirdWatch: Fledgling Robins are out and about! 😄
These tiny chirpers emerge from nests about 2 weeks after hatching, though still rely on mum & dad as they learn to fly.Enjoy watching their adventures - but remember to give them space!
