Hello creatures and beings of the Fedilands!

I come to you with a request—or perhaps an offer, depending on how you choose to see it. A few months ago, I released a small audio-drama project based on three short fantasy stories I had written. At the time, I asked whether any of you might be interested in lending your voices to the endeavor. What I did not anticipate was the sheer wave of feedback and enthusiasm that followed its release.

There was, however, a shadow over that first incarnation. The project was born from a college writing class and bound tightly by length limits and an unforgiving timeline. Creative corners were cut. Wings were clipped before they could fully spread.

So now, encouraged by friends and kindred spirits, I have chosen to begin anew.

Blackwood Tales rises again.

The script for Episode One is complete, and Episode Two is already taking shape in the dark between the stars.

And now we come to the true meat and bones of this message. I am seeking collaborators of all kinds. Voice actors, composers, artists, and any wandering souls who feel the pull of this world. You are warmly invited. If the project calls to you, I would be delighted to speak and see where your talents might weave into the tapestry.

A young man burdened with seemingly useless magic, a collection of ancient books, and the weight of his grandfather’s legendary legacy must find a way to save his brother—and restore the freedom of magical creatures from Tarrinia’s tyrannical ruler.

In the mysterious city of New Victoria, tales swirl about a sinister mareling, rumored to be composed entirely of snakes. This eerie creature allegedly lurks in the city's shadowy nooks and crannies, slithering through its dim alleyways. According to some, it resembles a mass of hundreds of snakes, twisted into a humanoid form—a writhing, serpent-filled amalgamation. In a world veiled in post-noctum mysteries, tales of eerie cities and forsaken towns abound. Among them is the urban legend of the Lost Town of Quietville. Travelers, en route to their destinations, often find themselves on winding backroads that lead to this peculiar hamlet. Eyewitnesses recount homes adorned with bizarre symbols, and behind every window, there's a figure with a grotesque hand over their mouth. As if entranced, they continuously sketch these uncanny symbols onto fogged windows, never pausing. Those bold enough to attempt entry assert that the houses lack doors and the windows are unbreakable. Within the town, voices are inexplicably subdued, turning any spoken words into mere whispers. When travelers finally depart from Quietville, they can never locate it again. Some believe that discovering Quietville is a curse; upon death, they will become another silent inhabitant of the town.

These diverse occult groups elected to unite to curb the influence and devastation wrought by the various Walks of Darkness and their affiliated malevolent organizations. However, the distinct cabals that form the Esoterium, while sharing common objectives, are predominantly autonomous. Each is governed by its own Esotarch (the head of a given esotary) and harbors its own secretive agendas. Consequently, the Esoterium might appeaudioar as a stable consolidation of like-minded factions, but in actuality, these alliances are frequently fragile, with each cabal pursuing their individual objectives. Despite this, the Esoterium has proven efficient in halting the spread of dark forces influencing the world. An enigma unearthed shortly after the Great Darkness of 1999 was the Black Leaf Forest. As its name implies, all the leaves in this woodland are inexplicably black. Perhaps more intriguing is the rumor that a reigning witch resides within these trees. Many trespassers of this forest have been found suspended from the branches of these ominously colored trees, presumably positioned there by the Old Witch of the Trees. Yet, her havoc is not confined to this foreboding forest. Indeed, bodies have been discovered in other woods, hanging from the trees. This prestigious group is composed of the most lethal dark hunters drawn from the various clandestine factions within the Esoterium. 

Once they are inducted into the order, they undergo intensive training and learn secret combat arts to prepare for and embark on specialized missions. Their primary objective: to assassinate high-profile Walks of Darkness. Due to the sensitive and dangerous nature of their work, the identities of the members of the Order of the Night Catchers remain anonymous. This secrecy allows them to continue their vital mission of purging the world of powerful and influential dark entities.

Near the borders of the town of Willard is a strange obscuruum called the "Grey Crowd." In the nearby forest are hundreds of limestone statues. These grey figures resemble twisted humans marching aimlessly through the stygian woods. When the site was first discovered, they were dressed in human skins. However, out of respect, the skins were removed to respect the dead whose flesh had been made into apparel. However, on the anniversary of the Great Darkness, people come to dress them in animal skins to pay homage to the monument. As a result, many protesters fought to have the statues demolished; however, the skins of those most vocal about destroying the monuments were found later dressing the grey crowd. After that, detractors abandoned all talk of eliminating the statues.

After the Great Darkness of 1999, many wondered about the fate of all the boats (and the people on them) out to sea that year. While no one can know for sure, there have been sightings of various ships some believe to be the missing vessels. These immense boats are often called "Zombie ships" or "Hell Barges" due to their unearthly and ghastly appearances. Some have rotting corpses and bones clung to their surface like barnacles, while others seem to possess writhing tentacles as if the vessels had a life of their own. However, none of the massive things seem to show signs of human life, only an outre and horrific transmogrification beyond human understanding.

The Holy City of Ming was a joint effort to exemplify the unity born from the new trade alliance and cultural blending of India and China, a state of affairs that developed as a natural outgrowth of mutual need after the Great Darkness of 1999. This city served as a cultural bridge between the two nations, birthing new industries and neo-cultures born from the intersection of both county's traditions and norms. For a while, the city flourished, becoming a mecca, of sorts, for those seeking new philosophical and religious landscapes, as well as new business ventures about proprietary tech that was coming out of the city. Located in the rural village of Huckamore, England is the Obscurrum known as the "HornHouse Zoo." The place can be found by traveling a winding path through the nearby woods, which leads to various "exhibits" of extraordinary size. Some of the cages are seven to eight stories high and twice as wide. Moreover, giant claw and teeth marks have been found on the stone walls of some exhibits, along with large feeding pits filled with human, and inhuman, remains. Some believe that giant beasts or monsters were housed there for viewing during the Great Darkness of 1999. Skeptics, however, see it as just another symptom of the madness humanity suffered due to a unique solar event that caused them to lose both their minds and memory.

The City of Nighthead is home to many urban legends and myths. One of these urban legends concerns a creature called "Deadbag." The tale comes from the fact that, after the Great Darkness of 1999, there were so many bodies that survivors didn't know where to store them all. As a result, corpses were thrown into large alleyways to clear the streets. Some believe the spirits of those left to waste consolidated into the entity known as Deadbag - a large centipede-like creature comprised of hundreds of body bags, moving about by arms and legs that have managed to slip the confines of their prison. It is said to wander the back lanes and forgotten slums of Nighthead, capturing wayward drunkards and vagabonds, adding them to its bulk.

Samaritan's Bridge is a post-Noctum legend about a dark bridge that mysteriously appears in small towns worldwide. It's said only to appear when someone has gone missing in the village of its sudden occupancy. Supposed witnesses describe an old and fog-eaten bridge stretching out into nowhere. Moreover, screams for help can be heard in the mist, a voice that seems to resemble that of the individual who has recently gone missing. According to some accounts, many have supposedly entered the fog to never return. Others have claimed to have gone in and escaped back out upon seeing horrific sights. Allegedly, the other side of the bridge is made from mutilated corpses that sing out in pain; all presided over by an enigmatic man holding a large hammer and railway spike. Those who have survived the encounter supposedly develop a phobia of bridges, never crossing one again.

The "Doomstriss" is an urban legend about a mysterious and beautiful raven-haired woman who visits clubs and taverns worldwide. However, her goal is not to socialize but to take the stage and sing before the audience. Her songs are said to start well enough - beautiful and serene. However, as the song progresses, the audience is met with a different melody. Those who claim to have heard her perform say her music is the sound of worlds ending, apocalyptic symphonies that cause the crowds to scream in horror. They say it is the discordant song of the end of all things, the death of God and all his creations. Witnesses also claim she transforms into a dark creature, a thing serenading the world with hymns of doom. Patients who had imaginary friends as children have started to recall disturbing events under hypnosis. The thing's moniker comes from the giant billowing coat it wears, where it supposedly keeps all the imaginary children it has captured. Notably, many individuals who recall these strange experiences go missing soon after remembering the once-repressed memory. It is unknown if there is a causal link between the patient's recollection and eventual disappearance.

"Tortuaries" are the machines by which Scream Eaters distill pain. These are nether-mechanical devices that can be the size of a large dresser to the size of a building. The Scream Eaters put their victims inside the machine to suffer unspeakable pain. To keep their victims alive longer, the Tortuaries often administer the "Limbo Elixer," which stops the soul from leaving the body. This way, the Scream Eaters can prolong their victim's anguish and feed longer. The Bolgia of Screams - the home of the Scream Eaters - is said to possess Tortuaries the size of cities.

Mr. Snaps is a tiny entity thought to be associated with the strange puppet deity situated in the Kinderman Woods. He is a small puppet that sometimes appears to people during the night, telling them about a "magical city" on strings or coercing them to follow him into the Kinderman Woods. He's also been known to tell people terrible secrets and to be the orchestrator of diabolical schemes. Some dark scholars believe he is an avatar of the puppet God- the Unbegotten of Manipulation.

Umbriael, the Angel of Restless Shadows, can be seen in the city of Nighthead as various statues of her punctuate the city. Many nocturnalists claim to have seen the dark angel in their dreams, showing them glimpses of the "First darkness" and visions of the legendary city beneath Nighthead - Unduur. However, it is unknown if Umbriael is a servitor of Sathoniss (the Unbegotten of Darkness) or is an agent unto herself. Some claim to have seen her in various parts of Nighthead, such as the Pyramid of Nox. Scholars believe she is part of a choir of angels they call the "Noctrait," as these entities only appeared after the Great Darkness of 1999.

Strange structures made from bones and enlarged skulls were discovered after the Great Darkness of 1999. However, while the outsides of the building were bizarre, their interiors were equally so. There could be hundreds of bottles full of human fluids - blood, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid - all on display as if they were served in the same fashion as fine wines or liquors. For this reason, the obscuruum came to be known as "Corpse Taverns." Of course, like most obscuruum, the purpose of these "establishments" are unknown, although the implications are grisly.

The Night Show is an urban legend about an other-worldly TV show that is broadcast only under the most bizarre of circumstances. Like similar myths, a ritual, of sorts, is required to attain the desired effect. In the Night Show's case, one must acquire a vintage TV and place it in the basement of a haunted house. At exactly 3:21 a.m., the TV is said to spontaneously turn on and display a ghastly variety show from a darker dimension of reality. The program is said to be so disturbing as to drive the watcher (or watchers) mad. There have been various reports, some substantiated, of people supposedly viewing the fabled Night Show and subsequently being admitted into local mental wards. In some cases, the people are never seen again.

Widespread poverty and waning funds for small municipalities became a significant problem after the Great Darkness of 1999. Consequently, the homeless and the poor gathered in large communities often called "Gutter Towns" and "Sod Cities." While impoverished, these towns are under the protection of an enigmatic figure known as the "Squatter King." Hailed as the "Avenger of the Poor," the Squatter King has been known to hunt and punish wealthy tycoons who have wronged the underprivileged. In one such example, he stalked Titus Gilfinger, the CEO of a chemicals supply company, who had authorized the pollution of a Gutter Town's water supply. While there were few legal ramifications for the magnate, he was eventually found hanging in his mansion, his insides replaced by burning $100 bills. While no one has ever identified the Squatter King, his work is unmistakable.

In the rural parts of the world, various traditions and customs developed after the Great Darkness of 1999. Specifically, different dark beliefs became common in the farmlands of America and other agricultural nations. One of these superstitions included the curse of the Witherman. The Witherman is a rural spirit summoned by angry farmers to blight their rival's crops. To facilitate this, farmers would construct a "Witherman" - which looks like a scarecrow stuffed with dead birds, bugs, and other vermin - and then place it in the rival farmer's pastures or fields. One famous instance in 2013 involved a union of angry farmers planting hundreds of Withermen in the fields of a large corporate farm as an act against big agriculture. While many consider it a coincidence, the corporate farm eventually went bankrupt due to a particularly aggressive blight.

In the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks mountains of Ireland, the giant "Throne of Maelor" sits. The throne was called "Maelor" for "Maelor Gawr" - a Celtic king and giant of Welsh Mythology. Like many such artifacts, the throne appeared only after the Great Darkness.
