  1. I've been thinking about the Classic #TravellerRPG Type S Scout/Courier.

A typical deck plan can be seen here : freelancetraveller.com/feature and from outside, it looks like this: canvastemple.com/index.php?mai

Now there is a problem with this. Look at the deck plan. Look at the line of thrust.

    The walls should be floors!

But there is a solution - and one found in the real world!

Have a look at the RV Flip!

So when in atmosphere or on the ground, the fittings could be rotated one way, and in space, under thrust, the other! No messing around with grav-plates!

  2. The Compton–Belkovich Thorium Anomaly is a volcano on the far side of the Moon. It was found by a gamma-ray spectrometer and is an area of concentrated thorium. Thorium-232 is not reactor fuel, but neutrons converts it into uranium-233 which is.

The thorium concentration reaches 5.3 µg/g while the surrounding basalts only contain between 0 and 2 µg/g. Compared to the Earth's thorium concentration of 0.06 µg/g, this is very high.

That spacecraft is one of the few designs that is both a tail-sitter and a belly-lander. Usually they are one or the other.

    A scifi universe building project

" a post-apocalyptic, post-capitalistic, interstellar setting where semi-realistic spacecraft coexist with unknowable alien ruins, paracausal creatures, open-source FTL devices and colourful, vibrant societies. "

In the 1950s there was a TV and book series called Tom Corbett Space Cadet.

The rocket ships, as near as I could figure, had liquid-core or gas-core nuclear thermal engines. If not actual nuclear salt water rockets.

When landed, the remaining liquid nuclear fuel would be removed, for safety reasons.

The truck doing this was called the "Hot Soup Wagon"...

Yes, the technical term for this is a "Brachistochrone". The turn around at midpoint is called a "skew flip". In the scifi show "The Expanse" they call the maneuver a "flip and burn"

  10. Winchell Chung is still alive!
But I've spent the last month or so in the hospital.
Details later, I just got out of the hospital about two hours ago.

Yes, good old Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
Though the old Soviet laser pistol used a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet rod instead of one using ruby, That's because it pumped the rod with flash bulbs instead of a strobe.
