💚 It’s Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week! 💚
Romance? Cool for some. Not required for everyone.
The aromantic spectrum (aro-spec) includes people who experience little, no, or rare romantic attraction—and that’s completely valid! 💚 Some aro-spec identities include grayromantic, demiromantic, and lithromantic (fancy words, awesome people).
Love comes in many forms—friendship, community, passion, self-love—and aro-spec folks are out here thriving! 🌟

The term "#aromantic spectrum" (#arospec) refers to a broad set of experiences and identities in which people relate to romance and love much less than it is considered "normal".
Some people may not feel any romantic attraction at all (that's me! 👋), some only very rarely, some only feel it only under certain conditions, etc.
Arospec people are very diverse and may or may not have additional identity labels (e.g. for sexual orientation or gender).

Are #aromantic spectrum people #LGBTQIA+? Yes! We're the "A" (which also stands for "#asexual" and "#agender").
But why include us in the first place? Because:
1) We defy widespread societal norms (heteronormativity, amatonormativity)
2) These norms actively harm us by restricting our true selves
3) Exposing and destroying these norms is in our own interest
4) We're a small minority
5) Being part of the broader LGBTQIA+ makes it easier to be heard -
There is a widespread #myth about that everyone will or should eventually have romantic feelings or engage in romantic relationship because that's "normal". The implication being that if you do NOT do these things, you are not normal, something is wrong with you.
This myth is known as "#amatonormativity". It is wrong. ❌
In reality, there is a wide variety of people in the #aromantic spectrum who destroy this myth every day by literally just existing. 😛

To anyone out there, feeling confused or pressured because people expect you to fall in #love, to have romantic feelings, but those feelings just never come for some reason: You are not alone. It's okay. Maybe #romance just isn't your thing.
But that doesn't mean you're broken. Society expects from us we will all seek out romantic relationships eventually but in reality, that's not true. There are many exceptions. And it still works out in the end.

The concepts of #romance, romantic #love, or feeling romantically attracted to people is foreign to me. When I was young, I just knew I would never want to marry or go into a romantic relationship with anyone. It just didn't feel right to me. I was right. I am #aromantic. I'm not the only one.
And guess what? I like the way I am. 🙂 I don't feel I'm missing out on anything.
ℹ️ This is the start of my little series for Aromantic Spectrum #Awareness Week. #ASAW
