Last night we had the first play session of the Nidus saga. The grogs went out for a trip to the closest town, talked to the miller, picked up a special order of glass ware, and encountered a mystery.
The mystery was a small goblin, who wanted to play with their shiny glass toys. He thought they were no fun, and didn't laught at his jokes. Neither did they care for psychedelic flowers. Boors.
Worked well to show the game system. We almost had a few botches, even!

Seit ein paar Tagen habe auch ich endlich die wundervolle Ars Magica Definitive Edition zuhause. Zum lesen bin ich kaum gekommen, aber das sieht alles richtig toll aus — das ist viel mehr als „nur Goldschnitt reicht“ (der ist da!), sondern die Sorgfalt und Mühe in jedem Detail ist spürbar - auch inhaltlich ist das Ding super strukturiert und eine würdige Neufassung der 5. Edition. Ich habe richtig Lust, das zu spielen. Nicht ohne etwas Skrupel: 580 Seiten! 🧙🧙♀️🧙♂️

Yesterday we got started on our Ars Magica game, the Nidus Saga.
I'd made a neat little chart showing all the steps to take when generating a character. I was on my way to step three when one of my players suggested we maybe start with this "character concept" thing I had written on the first step. Like, what is a grog, even?
Me, enthusiastic?
I think in the end we all felt the combat stats were somewhat involved to calculate...
Next up, a grog only scenario!

One of my big issues with most character sheets is that I write quite big, and have a hard time fitting all I want on a sheet
Also, I prefer to have *everything* you need on the front of the sheet.
It's getting crowded...

I've been on this Ars Magica trip lately. The first edition I ever saw was the 2nd and it opened spaces. The later ones where massive turn offs. The 2nd ed rekindled my curiosity as I read it again lately.
Having gotten and read the supplement "Order of Hermes", even though it's not one of the later humongous and dense ones, I once more felt it was a slog.
It's a game with so much potentail that drowns in bummers as it gets detailed.
