  1. Our first game of the year was Lion Rampant, playing a rather large game of Romans v Goths. Scenario was along similar lines to our recent Saga games.

  2. Bought some better glue to fix the issue I’d been having with these 1/72 scale riders.

They kept flaking off the horses at the slightest touch.

I’m sure more seasoned modellers have been using similar glues but this was the first time I had used this dual ‘activator’ & super-glue approach. A slightly more expensive solution than the no-frills brand glues I typically use on figures.

The riders are rock solid on their mounts.

  3. #lionrampant game tonight at Jolt in #canberra Using a mix of club terrain and my 1/72 Italeri, MiniArt, Orion, Strelets (with the odd Airfix) figures.

We played a homebrew siege game based on one of the scenarios from the LR rule book.

I tried the old ‘challenge to duel’ gambit…which I won, but my opponent used his reroll token to negate it. We tied and the game ploughed on.

Was basically ground into a paste after that. Good times!

  4. Another chance to redeem myself in a game of #LionRampant tonight at my local games centre ‘Jolt’ here in #canberra.

    I lost.

My leader challenged his leader and defeated him in a duel…but it was probably mistimed as all of my opponent’s morale held. My leader’s unit was smashed a few turns later and fled. This had a cascading effect on my retinue’s morale and we were soon fleeing the ground.

The Hussite wagons made it to safety and the scenario was lost.

  5. First #LionRampant game for many many months. I’d forgotten how much I love seeing my 1/72 medieval collection on the table.

I’ve been taking my son to the local games store Jolt in #canberra for a weekly MtG game. I managed to arrange a game of LR with a friend of the family. We played the ‘Hold on Tight’ scenario.

It was a brutal dust up that went many rounds before my last Elite cavalry units were routed.

  6. I’ve been off the brushes for months now, busy with work and other commitments. I’ve let my painting slide and I didn’t realise how much painting regularly helps to relieve stress.

But now the urge to add to my very large collection of painted 1/72 Medieval & Dark Age collection has returned. These Accurate brand figures are part of a large stack of 100YW troops I’ve recently acquired.

Don’t hold your breath there’s a lot of stuff to paint!

  7. Picked up a cheap copy of this ‘Viking in the Sun’ supplement for #LionRampant on FB marketplace. Lots of great background content, pictures and heaps and heaps of scenarios. Very impressive…especially the scenarios, as I’m always looking for scenarios. #Tabletop #Wargaming #wargames

  8. I finally get my 2023 1/72 Crusade project up! #LionRampant @ #canberra regional #Wargaming club. The club runs once a month @ Lanyon Vikings. Today there were 40-50 people playing a mixture of games. I spent a few hours with my father in law and 12 year old daughter playing the Bloodbath scenario from LR. I love seeing my finished armies on the #Tabletop My daughter’s Elite Cavalry and crossbowmen punished her grandad’s nimble Muslim archers and infantry. #wargames #historicalWargames

  9. A few days off from work trying to recover from a hayfever induced head cold…the only productive hobby task I could bring myself to undertake is to base these 1/72 Italeri crusaders for #LionRampant . These guys are part of a package of prepainted troops I bought…I’ll post some comparisons with my own painted troops soon. #tabletop #Wargaming #wargames #miniaturepainting #historicalwargaming #tabletopgames

  10. Hacking n’ spakin’ the bases for these 1/72 Italeri Crusaders. My bases are made from galvanised steel bar…a real chore to cut by hand, but magnetise and fit well into very useful boxes. #Tabletop #Wargaming #miniaturepainting #LionRampant #MiniatureWargames #historicalWargames #wargames

  11. Finished basing my 1/72 Italeri Saracens for #wargaming #tabletop #wargames #historicalwargaming #LionRampant . Normally I would try to add a few more flourishes to my bases but there’s so much colour and opulence on these figures, I’ve just kept it simple. These guys are gonna be the Ziggy Stardust glam rockers on the tabletop when compared to my very sombre and austere looking Crusaders…the problem is I’m so busy for the next few weeks I’m going to have to fight hard to get a game in.

  12. A spare hour or so hacksawing, glueing and spakfillering (is that a word even?) these Italeri Saracens for #wargames #wargaming #medievalwargaming #LionRampant . I bought these pre-painted and I’m a bit conflicted…they’re better painted than I could ever achieve but they were going for a song so I bought a few sets. I used to pride myself on painting everything I put on the table but I can’t claim these as my own! It’s a first for me, as I’ve never bought someone else’s pre-painted figures.

  13. WIP. 1/72 Italeri Crusaders. The white out continues. A dirty ink wash followed by white highlights and a white dry brush. Tried the crucifixes with a red sharpie on one of the figures. Looked terrible, so yeah…while we’re at it, let’s just dab more bloody white everywhere to cover up my lack of skill. So many little mistakes, things to fix and yes indeed white splotches everywhere. Will I ever get this unit on the table? #LionRampant #wargaming #miniaturepainting #historicalwargaming

  14. Trying to get my painting mojo back after a week or two off the brushes. I thought these Templars would be quick & easy but there are some subtle aspects of the sculpts that have tripped me up - not all the figures are standard. I realise now after slapping down loads of ‘Basilicanum Grey’ for chain mail…not happy with the results…they aren’t all in mail…start again. Guess I’m not living up to my slap-it-down ethos. #wargames #miniaturewargaming #wargaming #miniaturepainting #LionRampant

  15. I don’t think there’s a deep enough level of hobby hell reserved for the inventor of these Citadel bottles. And no, this isn’t my first rodeo with half sealed bottles of brown contrast paints tipping, springing open & deluging my workspace. Oh well…the tedious basing work on my 1/72 Muslim infantry continues. #miniaturepainting #wargaming #LionRampant

  16. Some painting therapy after a crappy couple of days…work on my Strelets 1/72 Muslim archers continues. I like to think I’m flying the flag for the average joe painters out there. A little bit everyday…the armies get sizeable enough and ready for the tabletop. #miniaturepainting #Wargaming #LionRampant

  17. 1/72 is by far my favourite scale to work with. It’s in my ‘goldilocks zone’. Here is the batch of 24 Strelets Muslim archers completed. 24 to go, then a bucketload of infantry. #Wargaming #miniaturepainting #historicalgaming #LionRampant #tabletopgaming

  18. #LionRampant at Northside Gamers in Canberra. Playing against my 13 year old son today. Room is packed with 11 separate games. The ACT really is a stronghold of tabletop gaming. #Wargaming #miniaturewargaming #tabletopgames

  19. Painting up these Strelets Muslim archers continues. As these were partially painted I haven’t followed my usual batch painting process. The irony is that it’s taking longer than I had expected. Perhaps I should have just started from scratch with the lot. #Wargaming #wargamingminiatures #LionRampant #medievalwargaming

  20. The lure of FB marketplace was too strong. A big batch of 1/72 figures came in the post today - all dark age to medieval period figures - & some siege machines and terrain as well. I threw in two boxes of Revell Aztecs as well…all at a very cheap price. These, and my pile of medieval plastic, will keep me busy until retirement….#Wargaming #wargamingminiatures #LionRampant

  21. Finished basing these 1/72 Avalon Hill Feudal figures. Here are two assembled with an Airfix man-at-arms, an Italeri Crusader Knight, a MiniArt Swiss pikeman and a Zvezda French Spearman. I just have to give these figures a final spray of Matt varnish…for 50 year old figures I’m pretty happy with how they came out. #Wargaming #wargamingminiatures #paintingminiatures #LionRampant

  22. 1/72 Feudal figures ready for basing. These figures are pretty much the only ones that scale well enough with the modern sculpts in my collection. As they’re generic unit filler for my 100YW Lion Rampant games I’ve painted them up in a ‘Prince Valiant’ colour scheme. #Wargaming #wargamingminiatures #paintingminiatures #LionRampant
