Did you know that you can build an entire business based on a single word in a single bullet of the App Store Review guidelines?! I don’t remember who originally pointed me to RFC2119, but I am so thankful for the definition of the word “may” having so much prior art.
Looking forward to my future blog posts “When is a physical good not a physical good?” and “IP over Carrier Pigeon: the ideal use of AppClips.”

A wild AppClip appeared…
Seriously, the concept of AppClips is kinda cool, but unfortunately there is no traction to it. I wish they would not be caught in the Apple walled garden (only usable in Safari and iMessage) and could be used in other apps like WhatsApp or Telegram.

An upcoming feature in my app is using AppClips for actually interesting things. Via a custom url experience, I can have a QR code that loads a web url on Android, and an AppClip on iOS. Payment is handled by the original sender, so no need for cross-platform payments.

A fun thing about the #AppClip reply experience: I already know who the postcard was to: and from: so I don’t need to ask for either of those. Photo, message, preview? send. There isn’t even an in-app purchase, as the original sender’s entitlement handles both the original send and the reply.

I’ve also implemented an #AppClip advanced experience for extremely efficient responses straight from the QR code. The question is whether or not my in-app purchase strategy for stickers will actually pass App Store review. In discussions with the Apple team during #wwdc we came up with a strategy that may pass, but that doesn’t mean I’m very confident in it.

One of my favorite features is sharing. It will generate an image for each link that is shared, so the other person will see the movie posters in the link preview. I spent quite a bit of time getting this to work—and it will probably have some hiccups here and there—but it makes me so happy whenever I see it 😄

@stroughtonsmith We just released an update to our privacy focused #podcast app #Lysten. All data is synced using #NSPersistentCloudKitContainer, so no backend. 😍
In the latest release we added #SharePlay, making it possible to listen to pods with friends and family.
Here’s an #AppClip link to the latest episode of #UnderTheRadar by @_Davidsmith & @marcoarment . (Yes, the app is so small the entire thing fits inside an App Clip 😂)

Latest beta adds support for #SharePlay and we support #AppClip, which means you can share a native player by sharing a link from Lysten.

Toast has the best #AppClip implementation I’ve seen yet. Scan the QR code on the receipt and you get this pop up where you can easily close your tab and pay with Apple Pay. More of this, please!

If you've ever wondered if App Clips can interact with StoreKit and offer the user a subscription, the answer is No. 😢

We finally released App Clip support to #Lysten! This means that you can share a #podcast show or episode with anyone! We believe this is a big step in making podcasts more #accessible.
