Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) study reveals widespread abuse of women politicians on Instagram. Researchers analyzed 560,000 comments on posts from ten prominent U.S. women politicians, equally split between Democrats and Republicans, from January to June 2024.
Machine learning model identified 1 in 25 replies as likely toxic. Instagram failed to act on 93% of 1,000 reported abusive comments, including sexist, racist, and threatening content. One-fifth of abusive comments came from repeat offenders.
