  11. I don't have much to say about 9/11 today, only because my heart is far too heavy and I'm struggling to find the right words. I've been trying to distract myself and think of better things. It would be my great-grandfather's 126th birthday today, and a friend also turned 98. We went to the nursing home, brought her flowers, and celebrated with her and the family. It was a wonderful time. These are the things I've been thinking about today. I can't let myself be devoured by dark memories of the past.

I live near Sikorsky Aircraft, the main helicopter manufacturer for the US. We were terrified of what was going to happen that day. We thought we were the next target. It was pure madness in my town. They evacuated all schools. All of them, except for mine. The principle made the wrong decision. It wasn't pretty. I'll never forget the panic in our teacher's eyes, the way they reacted, the way my mother argued with the principle when she came to pick me up.

Let's remember those we lost today, and yes, that certainly includes those who passed away years later due to illnesses caused by the destruction and devastation of that day. We can't forget them. NYC had a very heartwarming ceremony and an extra moment of silence for them. Thank you, Mayor Mamdani.

On Oct 7, 2023 some 1195 Israelis were killed. Since then, Israeli forces have killed some 72,835 people in Gaza. That is eight 9/11's per year for three years, with no sign of stopping.

Eight 9/11s per year for three years. One every month and a bit.

Imagine watching the towers fall almost every month of your life for years at a time.

How long before you stop being angry? Before you stop wanting revenge?

  18. CW: 9/11

#911memories Fuck George Walker Bush. I hope he never knows a moment's rest or peace for as long as he lives. I hope people throw their shoes at him everywhere he goes for the rest of his life.

  19. CW: 9/11

September 11. As a USian of a certain vintage, this day is imbued with a permanent sadness—–a terrible loss and pain that will never really go away.

2,996 were killed that day. I'll never forget what that felt like. To see the towers fall. To feel in my bones the ache and agony of so much death.

The US then invaded Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 911. Our leaders lied. Our soldiers bled. We killed some 654,965 Iraqis. That is six 9/11s per month... just in the first three years.

The scope of this crime is unimaginable.

  24. Lets all take it easy on ourselves and each other today.

Take the time for self care and give yourself room and space as necessary.

  25. 2/2 Everyone in the building was told to go home (as did every other business.)

Downtown was in absolute chaos (in contrast to the most beautiful weather we'd seen in years.)

I was in downtown #Houston auditing Enron.

  26. My #911Memories: It was my 3rd day at a new job. 1st time ever working in a skyscraper. On the bus headed downtown, people were reporting a plane had hit one of the towers. I was thinking "Piper Cub".

The skyscraper elevators had news updates on a screen. A 2nd plane had struck.

"WTF is going on?" So many people were trying to get news updates online, data slowed to a standstill (despite having a MASSIVE trunk line.)

We instantly knew it was no accident. 1/2
