Fascinating video about the recent #DXPedition to #BouvetIsland, and the minority of individuals that didn’t behave in the spirit of #hamradio #amateurradio

I am not an active ham (KB0ZMS), but I am frustrated by the DQRM directed at the Bouvet Island DXpedition (3Y0J). I just cannot wrap my head around what anyone gains from blocking others from gaining a rare one, plus all the mean-spirited griping and general nastiness. People can be so disappointing.
The Radio Amateur's Code starts with “never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.”

Fakers continue to fake:

Posted a comment on a video about #3Y0J - immediately deleted it so I don't cop any fallout. Thou shalt not have criticism or concerns about how the trip was done and they're all superheroes apparently.

Trying to listen for #3Y0J on their FT8 frequencies right now... 😒

In between posting some rude comments on the DX Cluster (while it's still anonymous) and writing trash items about #3Y0J on the WWW,
I copied today's #Morsle at 40 WPM! https://morsle.funNow off to warm the amp for some potent carriers on the DX QRG. Split? What split?
For those about to jam, we salute you! -
About all the DXcluster mess with #FT8WW and #3Y0J: they are not new. These Cluster Crabs have been alive for many years. While the original article domain was taken over, the archive remains in the Internet Archive.

I have finally successfully decoded #3Y0J with a 1m-length whip antenna with counterpoise wires + Airspy HF+ Discovery + gqrx + WSJT-X 2.6.1 on Ubuntu x86_64 22.04.1, on 10.144MHz FT8, today (20230210), in Tokyo Japan, at PM95tp.

Damn I sure hope this is the real deal and not a pirate!
Hex heading, frequency and propagation all match.
15m was a gong show complete with self-appointed FT8 cops & I couldn't hear 3Y0J at all.
Slid over to 10m and got them right away... if it was actually them. Will see. Fingers crossed. Will try for other modes/bands later on when things calm down. #HamRadio #Digital #DXpedition #3Y0J #BouvetIsland -

For those following along, bullshit #3Y0J spots started, at least, 24 hours BEFORE they even reported they had antennas up.

-
Nice to see that #3Y0J got off a couple of Garmin locator pings around 12:40PM PT today showing them at 82ft above sea level.

I wish there were more #3Y0J coverage here on Mastodon - I don't want to return to the dark side to get updates! #amateurradio

Excellent video presentation and Q&A about the upcoming 3Y0J Bouvet DXpedition, by team member Adrian, KO8SCA.

Is anyone doing anything special to prepare for #3Y0J / #Bouvet Island dxpedition? It's pretty much just ocean between my QTH and there, so I don't know if they are in a null on my Windom. I'm not opposed to throwing together some monoband beam (if I have enough free time), but if I can't hit them, my backup plan is to operate from my Elmer's shack using the hexbeam on his tower. 😜
I will be going through the WSJX dxpedition mode instructions before then.
