This show is a Chinese SF/magical realism show about a girl and a guy getting stuck in a timeloop after a bus explodes.

They must figure out how to get out of the timeloop, and how to figure out who bombed the bus without getting arrested by the cops.

I already recced this show about a girl who is allows herself to be mistaken for a man to get a job in a coffee shop. What I didn't say was that she first was hired to be a homosexual lover to get the lead out of prospective marriage dates.

#Kinnporsche is an explicit BL gangster drama from Thailand. It became a phenomena in summer 2022 by expanding the storylines found in #bl (male/male) dramas.

LLTG was a Chinese historical drama / romance about a brave and free-spirited girl moving to the capital and being courted by three very different men.
The girl liked engineering and was an interesting heroine. She eventually learns to navigate the rigid society she lives in.

The Untamed is too vast an epic to be contained in one 500 word post. But it is definitely worth watching.

A martial arts, mystery, fantasy, romance that sticks with you. I made this to document the 16 years skipped over in the story where Lan Wangji (in white) morns the loss of Wei Wuxian (black).

11. Gun - A Mr Queen FanVid
Mr Queen is a Korean comedy with serious parts about a modern chef whose soul travels into the body of an Joseon era Queen.
The womanizing man must find out a way to survive the political court, avoid his husband, and hang out with cuties.

Series has a lesbian vibe, but the lead learns to love his hubby.

10. Word of Honor
Why would a political drama in a martial arts world burn down the internet? Amazing chemistry.

Two unabashed murderers find redemption through love. A male/male romance that slipped past the Chinese sensors with lovely acting, humor, exciting fight scenes, Amazing costumes, and SO much flirting! The side characters are interesting, and the plot has depth, although it is confusing at times. Tragic and sweet.

9. 1% of Something
This is a romance designed especially for elementary school teachers.
A rich 1%er tells his rude grandson, Lee Jae in, that he will only give him his money if he marries a kind school teacher, Kim Da Hyun.
But Da Hyun is fine with her life and doesn't want him or his money. They negotiate it down to 6 months serious dating, and they both do the work. She improves his manners (her day job), and he helps out her school and blorbo. cw: sex assault

6. My Roommate is a Gumiho (2021)

Jang Ki Yong was once named the best kisser in Kdrama. He is at his prime in this show playing a gumiho, a mythical fox spirit that can shape shift into a human. He has a red bead that sucks energy from humans to sustain him. It gets swallowed by a human girl, and he convinces her to live with him until he can get it out. This show has a nice mix of humor, horror, and romance. Here is a fanvid for it.

4. Hikaru no Go - Live Action
The Japanese Anime that launched the worldwide craze for GO had a Chinese live action adaptation.
Hikaru was renamed Shi Guang and it was moved to Hong Kong right after it re-established Chinese rule. Sai was considered a time traveling soul (because Ghosts weren't favored in Chinese shows at the time). But the timeless story of two rivals turned friends still pulls at the heartstrings. (iQiYi)

3. GOBLIN (2016)
This is a #fairytale #romance of the best caliber with excellent music and stellar cinematography.

A girl is asked what kind of Love Story she likes best and she replies "a sad love".

It has a medieval backstory, a supernatural protagonist, an impossible girl, and agents of death.
Our main character has lived for hundreds of years with an invisible sword in his chest waiting for the "Goblin Bride" who can release him from his immortal life.

1. COFFEE PRINCE
This is an show from 2007 and it was super popular in Korea when it aired.
The premise is an androgenous female, breadwinner of her family, claims she's male to get a barista job. Her boss falls for her, but thinks she is a guy. He goes through a bisexual awakening before he finds out the truth.
This classic show may be the start of the wave of coffee shop fics in the 2010s.

Last Year I got a Viki membership for Christmas and started streaming videos from Korea, China, and Japan.
Now after almost a year, I have watched dozens of shows, and it has really changed my perception of Asian cultures.
This month, I think I will spend some time mentioning some of the shows that I watched and what I liked, or didn't like about them. I will probably use the hashtag #2022recs although they aren't necessarily the best shows, I learned so much from them.

Just finished watching "Cheer Up" a college drama about Korean Yell leaders (I can't call them cheerleaders) that lead school cheers and wear bright costumes. I wonder if they really exist?

A series called Reset. It is Chinese and I really enjoyed it.

If you haven't seen any Chinese shows before, it has some assumptions about society that I find fascinating to compare to our own. The entire show is on youtube.
