My tribute to #FredBrooks. He was a contemporary of Jerry Weinberg at IBM and possibly the first person to use the term "architecture" for computers. Jerry said to me -
"Fred asked me if I thought the term 'architecture' was appropriate for what he was doing in designing the 360. Nowadays, with the term 'architecture' bandied about in meaningless ways, I regret that I told him it was okay."

With the death of Fred Brooks, a friendly reminder: the key takeaway people have from his book is usually misquoted.
You *can* add more engineers and get projects done faster if the tasks are *parallelizable* and there is clear agreement about the interactions (example: software contracts).
"When a task cannot be partitioned because of sequential constraints, the application of more effort has no effect on the schedule."

I remember buying the Mythical Man month book almost 15 years ago. I was so excited and a PM I worked with asked why...
I opened to a random place in the book and read it and we both went... shit that is good.
It was such a powerful read

RIP Fred Brooks, architect of the IBM/360 and its OS, and author of The Mythical Man Month. A hugely influential computer scientist. As an undergraduate computer science student I worked part time in the Physics/Maths library at St Andrews University. Nightmare Fredbear and Nightmare... goddamn. The times where I have to amp up the volume to listen to their laughs and breaths back in FNAF 4. I was playing on a tablet, full brightness with earphones on, in a dark room at night.
Idk what I was thinking 10 years ago playing that game at dead at night. It didn't bother me that time but over time I felt so scared coming back to FNAF again.
I couldn't play FNAF 1 nowadays cos of it. But right now I'm playing UCN.
