Anthropic boasts they're working with a company called Frontier (🙄) to remove carbon from the atmosphere to make their datacenters "ethical" … when every informed person knows this doesn't work, is just a drop in the ocean, and is green-washing.

Meanwhile Google illegally destroys forests that actually remove carbon … to build more datacenters.

This is what you encourage when you use LLMs. Even local LLMs.

In this article, Piketty argues that the French school funding crisis can be solved under capitalism with a wealth tax. In doing so, he misunderstands how the capitalist mode of production works.

A mere tax cannot truly solve this crisis, or any similar one. If capitalism is not overthrown, either the school funding crisis will not be solved, or it will be "solved" only temporarily. (1/3) #France #Capitalism #Communism #Marxism

In the coming century, there will be very few people who have seen a coral reef or a glacier.

Salt marshes protect coastlines by attenuating wind waves, but even though the marsh substrate remains stable during extreme storms, vegetation damage reduces wave attenuation. Nature can only do so much to protect us against an increasingly dangerous world created by climate change.

If we were to cut emissions by 18% in four years, that’s about the same rate of decrease as in 2020 during COVID-19 when the whole world shut down. 🫠

Heat storms, massive heat waves covering at least 1% of the globe for five consecutive days, have become increasingly frequent and severe. These storms were rare in the 1960s, but now average 102 per year, causing widespread heat-related deaths, wildfires, and droughts.
