  1. #SUCHO day 79: trying to catch up on the backlog, now that all the kids are back in school. It was mostly a day focusing on #DHUnbound2022, but a DH / DS librarian end-of-the-day roundtable chat brought SUCHO back to the center of things. 1/5

  2. #SUCHO day 78: It's been a day of commitments made before Russia's invasion, though the themes of the #DHUnbound2022 conference arguably resonate far more in the work of SUCHO than anything I actually submitted and got accepted in January. 1/6

  3. Reading the final project updates from students in the #AI class, I'm struck by the fact that everyone who's working with an open model is using #mistral7b which wasn't even released until the first day of class this quarter. And so much will change, again, before I next teach this class.

  4. @tillgrallert @jimgroom I've been updating this fandom wiki page with all the info I've got: babysittersclub.fandom.com/wik. I'm fairly sure the #BabySittersClub Netflix series was translated (subtitles) into Arabic, but I think that's it. I don't think I've even heard of graphic novels in Arabic, and there's several languages that only have the graphic novels.

  6. Logging into #DHNB2023 at 6 AM for "Challenges of Long-Term Sustainability of DH Projects: The LAM (Libraries, Archives and Museums) Perspective" with Grace Bicho, Olga Holownia, Helena Byrne, and Pedro Gomes. Themes of this workshop: practices around long-tem #preservations of DH projects, identifying challenges, brainstorm shared solutions for project discoverability & access. #DigitalHumanities

  7. @tillgrallert @Jomla @mia Come to think of it, I've already scraped names from the program for a talk last week at #ACH2023. Should be easy to do the same for institutions then geocode for cities.

  8. One last bit of #ACH2023 #DHmakes joy from this morning's Work Adventure, where I donned (IRL) the collaborative vest and spun some purple fiber while we talked about making and ponies.

  9. Where are we at the end of #ACH2023 #DHmakes? La Mars, Iowa (on the other side of the Cornfield of No Connectivity), with a bobbin and change of #spinning done today, some progress on the #knitting (pink shawl), and chipping away at the #enby hexagon sweater. It'll do for today.

  10. It's only a #DHmakes in potentia so far, but now I'm dreaming about what my knitting and embroidery machines might do with @jojodoodles fantastic #ACH2023 doodles. Textile abridged conference program? 🤔

  11. The state of the knitting / the state of the corn in Iowa with a 10-minute countdown to closing remarks. #ACH2023 #DHmakes

  12. Get yourself a collaborator who adds excellent cats to your slide deck. 💖😻 for @nickoal at #ACH2023.

  13. Love watching @jenniferisasi lay out the stakes of #MultilingualDH, for Spanish and all non-English languages at #ACH2023. It always bears saying, and repeating, in contexts where Anglophone-oriented scholars are present and listening. It is "a matter of social and linguistic justice".

  14. "Continue on I-90 for 245 miles" says the GPS. And we're off for #TourDeFleece and the next leg of the road trip. #spinning #DHmakes #ACH2023

  15. @jamessmithies @uk_ie_dh Did you happen to see anyone making things at the event? 🥹 The #ACH2023 #DHmakes crew is looking for friends and collaborators!

  16. One more day of #ACH2023! Whether or not you're at the virtual conference, we'd love to see your #DHmakes! We're adding #DHmakes posts to our curated collection through the end of the day today: textilemakerspace.stanford.edu #DigitalHumanities

  17. Thankfully, the husband has come up with an interesting angle on the #ControlledDigitalLending situation that I'll have to mull over more. Thank you, Friday night kid movie, for the ability to actually finish whole paragraphs, and not just the occasional sentence.

  18. I have no doubt the kids would try to be empathetic but I'm not sure I have it in me to attempt to describe the nuances around #ControlledDigitalLending to the primary school crowd right now. 😧

  19. *husband and I discuss plans in Russian*

First-grader: Hey! I know something you just said! You said... "not"!

#Duolinguo paying off for that kid. 😅

  20. Rachel Pierce: Digital collections need to be integrated into broader system of archival management, including metadata & description. Describing digital collections appropriately runs against tradition of something only existing in one place: it has to exist in two. Can reimagine description by reframing archive as an archival body (per Jamie Ann Lee). #archives #DHNB2023

  21. Rachel Pierce: sustainability of images in databases has repercussions for sustainability of modes of history-making. Each rebuilding of database is new moment of fact-making, and affects the kinds of histories you can write over time. Digital archives make it clearer that archives are processes, not something stable. #DigitalHumanities #DHNB2023 #archives

  22. A little late to Rachel Pierce's presentation on "Picturing Swedish Women’s History: Digitizing Photographs from the KvinnSam Archives", but current discussion is on how to bring things together from disparate archives without losing context. Created thematized "historical portals" in lieu of a finding aid. Database and other materials are on servers that will be retired, so those structures will be archived & images will be (again) displaced from their context. #DHNB2023

  23. @zoeleblanc @simonwiles @shane_et_al @sramsay I bet we could get multiple DSC books out of this one, though we might need to get creative with the premise a bit for something like SQL. (There's no database in our project as such, though we have a metadata sheet and full text.)

I don't know offhand what the underpinnings are of the #JupyterBook search, but since that's our publishing platform it could be one starting point.

  24. day 80: Today was mostly the conference, but also reveling in the textile beauty of Vyshyvanka Day. One of my favorite sites we've archived had an amazing art project to celebrate it last year. sumy-centum.at.ua/news/vsesvit 1/2

  26. At the DH / DS librarian chat, we talked about how hard it is to make new connections w/o in-person events, especially with the pandemic. And @[email protected] brought up how working together on a project can do that, naming specifically. 2/5
