Pretty much perfect spring weather, so I’m working on the back deck. Noticed movement in my peripheral vision and spied this tiny jumping spider furtively sneaking closer for a peek at my setup.

A small waterfall along Little Stony Creek.
#waterfall #hiking -
This afternoon, fulfilling a Mother’s Day request a day early, the family hiked the Cascades in Pembroke, VA. The trail transits up Little Stony Creek to this fantastic set of falls. We had the fortunate timing of being there not long after heavy rains. Perfect weather for it too.

Referee got it mostly right, it seems. From IFAB:
A handball offence is not committed when a player:
is hit on the hand/arm by the ball which has been played by a team-mate (unless the ball goes directly into the opponents’ goal or the player scores immediately afterwards, in which case a direct free kick is awarded to the other team)

It's finals week and I know he's deep in his studying, but the dude texted me to share his outrage about the referee ruining the #BAYPSG match. 😆
-
Two handballs in subsequent plays both ignored and play stopped in both instances inexplicably. Shambolic refereeing in a critical match.

For a series of days, I’ve been tackling the back patio. Pressure washed all the moss off, pulled so many weeds from in between the stones, and flossed out the dirt in the gaps with a putty knife. Last night I put down polymeric sand and soaked it in.
Very happy with the results.

When his time is up, Bowen deserves a statue. West Ham owe him far more than his compensation.

Took the day off to head up to Natural Bridge State Park with my wife. Pictures don’t really do justice to how massive it is.
Then there are the Blue Ridge Mountains, always gorgeous. Will return to Skyline Trail later this summer, as it’s an official International Dark Sky viewing location. Perhaps in August for the Perseid meteor shower season.

Happily it was a straightforward swap of identical models. Didn’t have to replace the sink flange as a result. It was an awkward business of hefting it up to get it aligned and locked into the flange, but it took only a mild amount of swearing to finally get it right.🤬
No leaks. Orders have been given to unfurl the mission accomplished banner.
(The wiring under this sink could use some taming. Whoever did it was certainly not paid by the hour. 🙄 )

I noticed late last night, by way of discovering pooling water under the sink, that the garbage disposal had gone belly up.
And so today’s task is to replace it, which I don’t really relish doing, but:
"…so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." -Gandalf the Grey
And so, I’m off to the hardware store, having accepted the conditions are what they are and deciding how to act.

Anderson sent off in stoppage time with a straight red card for...? Dissent?
He seemed to turn and shout near the referee after a contested header he wasn't even involved in. The commentators don't know and neither do I. Referee has really lost control. I could see a yellow card as justifiable, but a straight red?!? Wow.

What a crushing turn of events for #NFO... soft penalty awarded and subsequently saved, then an OG off Yates 60 seconds later.

Spent the first half of the run trying to figure out if I was hearing a fox, a possum, a raccoon, or a fawn screaming from just beyond the fence. It stopped as soon as I got out my phone to record. So now my working theory is aliens. Or Sasquatch. Can’t allow themselves to be clearly filmed.
Then a young, shirtless dude arrived. 37°F/2.8°C out. Well beyond #TeamShorts
The agony was the cologne in his wake. He doesn’t yet know cologne should be discovered, not announced. 🏃💨👃🤮

Took a couple of rest days b/c I could feel my hamstring & feared possible injury. After a consideration of time spent in each HR zone over previous runs, it was clear that I was overdoing the pace, even with 4/1 min run/walk intervals. I ~could~ do that pace, but I ~should~ dial it back a bit & build fitness. Anaerobic all the time wasn’t helping.
Cold tonight, just below freezing and 25 mph (40 kph) winds gusting to 50 mph (80.5 kph). #TeamShorts but definitely bundled elsewhere!

Windy and chilly #FirstDayHike at Claytor Lake State Park

A chilly 36°F (2.2°C) but with sustained 19 mph (30.5 kph) winds gusting to 38 mph (61 kph) making it feel like 26°F (-3.3°C). Once or twice, I came around a corner and was nearly stopped in my tracks. I do love this chilly weather and saw several other runners also on #TeamShorts
Ran/walked 4/1 min intervals again, which feels mostly right at the minute — although I was fading to something more like 3.5/1.5 at the end. 😩🤗
Ran 6.52 km in 51:55 for an average pace of 7:58/km.

Today’s plan: buttress a sagging shelf in my daughter’s closet. Bought some new brackets & thought it’d be pretty straightforward.
However, the vertical foundational wood piece might be overlapping the edge of a stud, but is more edge proximate.
Then the wood rail that the shelf sat upon, is not mounted to the wall, but instead to the foundational piece, leaving a gap between it and the wall and, crucially, meaning that any bracket would not be level with the wall, sagging inward.

If Bournemouth had a replacement-level goalkeeper, how much higher in the table would they be? Petrovic has the second worst goals prevented at -4.4 and was pretty dreadful tonight.

The idea that Bentancur with one arm is pulling down Dan Burn is laughable. VAR is ridiculous.

Grimsby Town!!! Winners over United in penalties.
